What are the responsibilities and job description for the Electro-Mechanical Maintenance Technician position at ATS - Industrial Maintenance?
A day in the life
You start your shift with a quick scan of the maintenance dashboard and CMMS ticket queue. A conveyor is signaling a fault—within minutes you’re on-site, diagnosing the issue, adjusting a control instrument, and swapping a worn component to restore flow. Between urgent calls, you complete a planned PM, tidy the area to 5S standards, and log your work—each entry improving the CMMS history for the next tech. Later, you back up a teammate on a simple machining task at the lathe and finish the day reviewing CI ideas that cut downtime and cost.
What you'll do
- Handle entry- to mid-level break/fix tasks and preventive maintenance to keep equipment running reliably.
- Adjust functional components and control devices; repair or replace defective parts; recondition or repair machine tools.
- Identify and request needed parts, supplies, and repair items to support timely fixes.
- Provide support and backup to department teammates as directed by leadership.
- Apply maintenance industry standards and uphold 5S/housekeeping expectations.
- Participate in continuous improvement efforts, focusing on process, results, and measurable cost savings.
- Set up and operate basic machining equipment (lathe, drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools) as needed; perform basic welding when required.
- Update records and review CMMS history to inform maintenance decisions.
- Troubleshoot basic control systems circuitry and support equipment controls.
- Engage in technical self-study for ongoing career development.
- Follow all safety policies, rules, regulations, instructions, and guidelines; demonstrate situational awareness and identify unsafe behaviors or conditions.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Associate degree with a technical focus OR 18 months of related experience in general industry OR successful completion of the ATS Technician Progression Program.
- Working knowledge of basic electrical and mechanical systems with the ability to perform repairs.
- Comfortable using standard hand tools.

Physical demands & work environment
In this role you will regularly stand and walk; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb, ascend/descend, or balance to heights that may require a ladder or lift; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl in confined spaces; and talk or hear. You will occasionally sit. You must occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds. You will regularly use close vision and color vision. You may occasionally be exposed to outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. Work is typically performed in a factory environment and is usually very loud. In the factory environment, you may be exposed to hazardous materials and/or greasy or slippery factory floors.
