Mechanical Forensic Engineer Supervisor

We are seeking a Mechanical Forensic Engineer Supervisor to lead and mentor a team of engineers. This role blends technical expertise in mechanical systems and forensic analysis with leadership responsibilities, including guiding assignments, inspections, and report reviews. The position is remote with required travel for site inspections, client work, and team support.

Location: Remote, with approximately 25–50% travel depending on home base.
Preferred home locations: Texas, Tennessee, Georgia, or Ohio.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and mentor mechanical forensic engineers on active assignments.
• Provide guidance in clarifying scope, preparing for inspections, and collecting data.
• Review, edit, and verify technical reports for accuracy, clarity, and consistency.
• Conduct and support forensic investigations, failure analysis and/or damage consistency evaluations pertaining to vehicles, vehicle system data, heavy equipment, machinery, fires, appliances, consumer products, plumbing, HVAC, and electrical systems.
• Monitor performance as it relates to client expectations in the areas of scope adherence/clarification, inspection scheduling, billed hours, cycle time, and total assignment cost.
• Collaborate with clients, delivering professional presentations and clear technical findings.
• Participate in testimony or litigation support (as needed).
• Lead and contribute to internal training and development programs for engineers.
• Maintain knowledge of industry standards, codes, and regulations relevant to forensic engineering.
• Travel 25–50% for inspections, site visits, and client meetings.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license (multi-state licensure preferred).
• 15 years of engineering experience with at least 10 years in mechanical systems.
• 3–5 years of forensic engineering experience.
• Management and training experience.
• Proven expertise in failure analysis and forensic engineering processes.
• Direct experience with mechanical and electrical systems including vehicles, vehicle system data, heavy equipment, machinery, consumer products, HVAC, and plumbing systems.
• Excellent inspection, troubleshooting, problem solving, and technical report writing skills.
• Client-facing experience with proven ability to communicate technical findings effectively.
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment.

Preferred Requirements

• Licensure in multiple states.
• Vehicle Accident Reconstruction (VAR) experience.
• Certified Fire Investigator (CFI) or Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator (CFEI)
• Testifying experience in litigation or arbitration.
