Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled automotive enthusiast and detail-oriented Laser Cutting Technician to join our manufacturing team. The ideal candidate will operate and maintain high-power industrial laser cutting systems, including a 5000-watt Trumpf CO² laser and Trumpf press brake, Epilog CO² and fiber laser engravers, and a 400-watt CO² Kern laser. This role requires strong hands-on machine operation skills combined with programming expertise, particularly in TruTops Boost software for Trumpf systems, to produce precise metal and non-metal parts efficiently while ensuring quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up, operate, and monitor the 5000-watt Trumpf CO² laser for high-precision flat sheet metal cutting, including material loading/unloading, nozzle changes, gas selection, and parameter adjustments.
- Program and optimize cutting jobs using TruTops Boost software (including nesting, lead-in/lead-out placement, technology tables, and automatic Boost features for efficient NC program generation).
- Operate and program the Trumpf 7036 press brake for bending formed parts to specifications.
- Set up and run the Epilog fiber and CO² laser engravers for detailed engraving, marking, and light cutting on various materials.
- Operate the 400-watt Kern laser system, utilizing KCAM software or compatible design tools (e.g., CorelDRAW, Adobe Illustrator) for engraving and cutting applications.
- Perform routine machine maintenance, troubleshooting, and minor repairs to minimize downtime.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, CAD files (DXF, DWG, etc.), and job specifications.
- Conduct quality inspections of finished parts using precision measuring tools to ensure compliance with tolerances and customer requirements.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment while adhering to all OSHA and company safety protocols.
- Collaborate with engineering, programming, and production teams to improve processes and resolve issues.
- Material inventory ordering and waste minimization through efficient nesting.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical/vocational training in manufacturing, machining, or related field preferred.
- Minimum 2 or more years of experience operating industrial laser cutting machines, with proven expertise on Trumpf CO2 lasers (e.g., TruLaser series).
- Strong programming experience with TruTops Boost software for Trumpf laser and bending operations (including 2D/3D design integration, nesting, and automated programming features).
- Familiarity with press brake setup and operation.
- Experience with Epilog laser engravers and Kern laser systems (including KCAM software) is highly desirable.
- Solid understanding of CNC principles, G-code basics, material properties (metals, plastics, etc.), and laser cutting parameters (power, speed, assist gases, focal positions).
- Ability to read blueprints and use measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauges).
- Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills for diagnosing machine issues.
- Must have basic hand tools and measuring instruments.
- Attention to detail, strong work ethic, and ability to work independently or in a team.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with SolidWorks, CorelDRAW is a plus.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and quality control processes.
- Forklift certification or willingness to obtain.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and perform repetitive tasks.
- Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
- Willingness to wear required PPE (safety glasses, hearing protection, etc.).
