Early Childhood Teacher, PreK/Kindergarten Focus (Full-time, begins August 2026) Atrium School is a progressive, inclusive PreK – Grade 8 independent school in the vibrant East End of Watertown, MA. Our students are diverse and original thinkers who develop confidence in themselves and respect for others within a joyful, energized community of nurturing and challenging teachers, engaged parents, and enriching community partnerships. Teachers in the early childhood grades at Atrium work in multi-teacher teams, and actively create innovative curriculum. We seek candidates with strong early childhood pedagogy in a classroom where social/emotional learning, collaboration, and kindness are prized. Atrium’s program and school culture cultivate inclusion and an active sense of social and environmental justice. Throughout the year, co-teachers work closely together to develop integrated thematic study that focuses all aspects of children’s education at Atrium into a central idea, often in collaboration with other members of the early childhood team. Qualifications: -Possess the spirit and qualities of innovation, reflection, initiative, collaboration, and kindness -Bachelor’s degree required, dual licensure or master’s degree preferred, with a minimum of three years of experience teaching early childhood-aged students -Experience teaching foundational literacy skills to PreK – Grade 1 students and assessing and supporting early readers -Knowledge and understanding of early childhood students’ emotional, physical, cognitive, and intellectual development -Experience and capacity in teaching diverse, multicultural perspectives -Excellent communication skills with students, colleagues, parents & guardians, and the greater community -Strong ability to problem solve, and work both independently and collaboratively Responsibilities: -Develop students’ skills and confidence through meaningful learning experiences that support critical thinking and problem-solving skills across academic areas, including project-based learning and play-based learning experiences -Develop a nurturing classroom environment to support students’ interpersonal and social-emotional growth -Design, refine, refresh, and implement curriculum following Atrium benchmarks; assess student work using multiple strategies -Co-plan and co-teach in a variety of modalities to support learning objectives -Write individualized student progress reports twice a year -Conduct parent/guardian conferences, and regularly communicate with families about curriculum and student progress In addition, faculty at Atrium: -Are passionate experts in their developmental areas and instructional skills; write skillfully and frequently -Enjoy and have great capacity to nurture the whole child, and value the broad array of learning approaches that every child possesses -Value the varied dimensions of student learning and progress -Collaborate daily with multiple colleagues to plan and carry out complex, integrated learning experiences that cross grades and subject areas -Initiate and continually plan their own growth within a supportive atmosphere that prioritizes professional development At Atrium, we believe diversity and inclusion are key drivers of creativity and innovation, and that a diversity of thoughts, experiences, backgrounds, personalities, and identities helps us think bigger and better, enabling us to reach our goals more effectively.
