Postdoctoral Researcher - Synthetic organic/medicinal chemistry
An opportunity is available for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Wa Xian and Dr. Frank McKeon at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine, Charlotte, North Carolina.
Candidates should have a Ph.D. with less than two years of postdoctoral experience, demonstrated experience in synthetic organic/medicinal chemistry with emphasis on heterocyclic compound chemistry, and an ability to work independently. A background in medicinal chemistry and drug discovery with experience of parallel synthesis and purification methods is required. Some experience in molecular modeling and/or protein-inhibitor visualization is a plus.

Key Responsibilities
- Independently execute multi-step organic syntheses, purify, and characterize small molecules.
- Apply solid-phase synthesis and bioconjugation chemistry to complex molecules.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to interpret SAR and guide compound design.
- Document results, maintain accurate digital records and adhere to EHS and laboratory best practices
- Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry or Organic Chemistry with less than two years academic experience.
- Strong hands-on experience in small-molecule design, synthesis, purification and characterization.
- Proficiency with LC/MS, NMR, analytical HPLC, and prep HPLC.
- Required proficiency in using SciFinder, Reaxys, Chemdraw, etc.
- Effective oral and written communication skills; contributed to internal reports, technical documentation, or peer-reviewed publications.
