Under general supervision, obtains specimens from patients for laboratory analysis and performs limited testing and/or result entry. Performs specimen processing and computer data entry. Functions as a liaison between the laboratory and patients/customers.

Position Highlights
- Shift Schedule: PRN, Variable shifts
- Department: Clinical Laboratory
- Location: High Point Medical Center
Your responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Assures accurate and timely collection of blood specimens, according to departmental practices.
- Assures accurate identification and delivery of patient samples to appropriate lab sections.
- Follows proper safety and identification procedures when dealing with patients and/or specimens under any circumstance or environment. Improves work skills through self-study and continuing education.
- Contributes to the smooth and efficient operation of the section and department.
- Protects self, coworkers and facility by following approval policies and procedures to prevent the spread of blood borne and/or airborne diseases.
- Exhibits and promotes the professional image of laboratories in accordance with hospital, department, and professional society philosophies, goals and standards of laboratory testing.
- Provides age-appropriate specimen collection in accordance with age specific guidelines for school age, adolescents, early adults, middle adults and/or late adults.
- Adheres to the general Medical Center standards to promote a cooperative work environment by utilizing communication skills, interpersonal relationships and team building.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
- One year of phlebotomy experience preferred.
- Demonstrates knowledge and experience in phlebotomy or related laboratory function.
- Basic computer skills including experience using computer software applications.
- Keyboarding and typing skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Good listening skills.
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment and to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Demonstrated customer service skills to interface effectively with physicians, patients, visitors, and other healthcare employees.
- Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
- Frequently lifts up to 10 lbs. Occasionally lifts up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to sit, stand, walk and bend the majority of the workday.
- May be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, radioactive and/or infectious agents.
- Will be exposed to human blood and body fluids.
- Must wear appropriate lab coat, gloves, gowns and eye and face protection as needed.
- Must be able to handle stressful situations in a calm and professional manner.
