- Major Responsibilities:
- ReviewsMedicareinpatient medicalrecordstoensureappropriatedocumentationofco-morbiditiesandcomplicatingdiagnoses.
- Managesdailywork listofpatients meeting prioritylistdiagnosesfordocumentation improvement including topvolume/varianceDRG pairs, Pneumonia (DRG089, Respiratory (DRG079),Sepsis (DRG320, 321,and416).
- Queriesappropriate physicianfor necessary documentation.Follows-upto ensure query response from physician.
- Maintains database on queries, response to query and documentation outcomes.
- Usesdatabase reports toidentifyphysician education needs and to report onsuccessof documentationprogram. Develops and provides education programs toappropriate providers.
- Acts as a resource to the Utilization Managers for early assignment of a working DRG on all Medicare patients.
- Provideseducation/trainingtootherUMstafftomaintainabackuptothedocumentationspecialistincaseoftimeoff.Coordinatespatient care throughout inpatientorobservationstays.
- Activelyparticipatesindepartmentalandorganization-wideLean/SixSigmaprogram100dayworkouts. Maintainsworkloadtoensure progress towards departmentalgoalsandobjectives.
- Identifies, documents andreportsvariances,quality,costand risk issuestomanagement. Supports andparticipatesinthereviewandmodificationofpolicies,proceduresand processes.
Licensure, Registration, And/or Certification Required
- Valid, active unencumbered Nursing license approved by the Georgia Licensing Board, HIM/Coding certification preferred
- Graduate of an accredited School of Professional Nursing, BSN or MSN Preferred
- 5ormoreyearshospital experience caringforshort term acute patients Comprehensive understandingofreimbursement mechanisms
- Full rangeofbodymotionincluding handling andliftingpatients, manual and finger dexterity andeye-handcoordination. Standing andwalkingforextensive periodsoftime.Occasionally liftsand carries weight upto50pounds.Abilitytodistinguish letters, numbers and symbols withvisionand hearing within normal rangetorespondtoCodealertsand equipment alarms.Work-relatedstressdue tovolumeand time constraints with irregularworkinghours.
