The Medical Reimbursement Intern will gain hands-on experience within the Insurance Refunds process, developing an understanding of revenue cycle operations, financial controls, and regulatory compliance. In this role, the intern will collaborate closely with Accounting and Accounts Payable to coordinate refund processing, ensure proper documentation, and support accurate financial reporting. They will also learn how payor-specific refund requirements are researched, interpreted, and applied in practice, while contributing to the resolution of outstanding credits and supporting the broader integrity of our revenue cycle operations.

Main job responsibilities:
- Research and identify payor-specific refund requirements, including required documentation and standardized forms in Smartsheets and Brightree
- Prepare and assemble complete refund request packets to meet payor guidelines
- Ensure accurate mailing of refund checks and required documentation
- Track refund submissions and follow up on returned or rejected checks
- Partner with Accounting and Accounts Payable to coordinate refund processing and ensure proper financial documentation
- Update patient and insurance accounts in Brightree once refunds have been processed to ensure accurate account balances
- Support reduction of aged insurance credits, particularly those exceeding 365 days
- Additional responsibilities as assigned by management to meet internship goals and business priorities.
- Enrolled in a post-secondary program in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Marketing, Communications or related field
- GPA of 3.0
- 3-6 months of related office clerical/data entry experience OR related course work
- Must be collaborative, well-organized and have high attention to detail.
- Must possess good judgment and work effectively with internal business areas, peers, and co-workers.
- Must have strong computer skills, strong knowledge of Microsoft Office programs highly recommended.
- Ability to manage work independently end-to-end, meet milestones and provide deliverables on time.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize them and pay attention to detail.
- Ability to recognize and direct information to the appropriate business partner.
- Ability to meet project milestones.
