Program Description: The Automation / Controls Engineering Supervisor is responsible for leading the electrical and controls engineering department to ensure projects are completed accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with UL standards, NEC requirements, and applicable electrical codes. This role oversees electrical system design, controls integration, PLC programming, automation support, and equipment modernization efforts while supporting engineering and production teams throughout project execution.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of the electrical and controls engineering department

• Ensure electrical and automation projects are completed accurately, efficiently, and within project timelines

• Verify compliance with UL standards, NEC requirements, and applicable electrical and safety codes

• Develop, review, and approve electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and control system designs

• Create and maintain Electrical Bills of Materials (BOMs) for projects and production requirements

• Program, troubleshoot, and support PLC-based control systems and HMI interfaces

• Support equipment startup, testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and field integration activities

• Collaborate with engineering, fabrication, production, and project management teams to support workflow and project deadlines

• Lead efforts to modernize, standardize, and improve existing automation systems and manufacturing equipment

• Establish and maintain electrical design standards, documentation practices, and system reliability improvements

• Assist with vendor selection, component evaluation, and electrical equipment specification

• Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and training to electrical and controls personnel

• Maintain accurate project documentation, engineering revisions, and drawing control

• Support troubleshooting and resolution of electrical and automation-related production issues

• Promote continuous improvement initiatives related to automation, controls, efficiency, and reliability

• Perform other related duties as assigned

This role includes, but is not limited to, the responsibilities listed above. Additional duties may be assigned as needed to support team and business operations.

Education and/or Experience:

Education Degree, technical certification, or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Controls Engineering, or related field

Experience Experience in industrial automation, controls engineering, machine automation, or electrical system design

Advanced Strong knowledge of UL standards, NEC requirements, and industrial electrical codes

Advanced Experience designing industrial control panels and machine wiring systems

Advanced Proficiency in PLC programming, troubleshooting, and controls integration

Advanced Ability to read, interpret, and create electrical schematics and wiring documentation

Advanced Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills

Advanced Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities and deadlines simultaneously

Language Abilities:

Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, memos, and work place policies. Ability to analyze, interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, procedures and governmental regulations. Ability to write professional correspondences. Ability to speak effectively with others. Ability to present formal information in one-on-one and small group situations to management and/or other employees. Ability to present information and respond to questions from managers and/or employees.

Mathematical Abilities:

Ability to add, subtracts, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ration, and percent and design and interpret charts and graphs to communicate business issues.

Reasoning Abilities:

Ability to carry out detailed written and/or verbal instructions. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form to carry out business objectives. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Other Abilities:

• SOLIDWORKS Electrical preferred

• Experience with 2D CAD electrical schematic and wiring software

• PLC programming experience (Codesys, Unitronics, or similar platforms preferred)

• HMI development and industrial automation system integration

• Electrical BOM development and component specification

• Industrial controls troubleshooting, startup, and commissioning

• Knowledge of industrial electrical distribution and machine control systems

• Experience with machine automation and manufacturing equipment

• Knowledge of servo systems, VFDs, sensors, safety circuits, and industrial networking

• UL508A panel design experience

• Experience supporting continuous improvement and equipment modernization initiatives

• Ability to support both hands-on troubleshooting and engineering design activities

• Experience leading or supervising technical teams in a manufacturing environment
