What You’ll Do
- Represent Atlas Schools professionally and positively during all practices, games, and athletic events.
- Assist the head coach with practice planning, game preparation, and team development using age-appropriate coaching methods.
- Support the head coach in administrative tasks, including attendance tracking, equipment management, and team logistics.
- Lead by example for athletes by demonstrating professionalism, accountability, perseverance, and good sportsmanship.
- Commit to working all days of the winter 2025 season, including pre-season, regular season, and post-season activities.
- Attend practices, official games, training camps, and any off-season workouts as scheduled.
- Be prepared for competitions that may occur on Fridays or weekends due to scheduling or weather-related changes.
- Assist with organized and accurate distribution and collection of all athletic equipment and uniforms issued to athletes.
- Maintain clear, professional communication with the head coach, athletes, families, and school staff.
- Support a safe and inclusive team environment, responding quickly and appropriately in emergencies.
Compensation & Schedule
- This is a 1099 Contracted position that receives a one-time payment once the season has concluded
- Total payment ranges from $1,931 - $2,869 (DOE) and will be dispersed on February 27, 2026
- In recognition of off-season responsibilities, Atlas guarantees 15% of the season’s compensation if the full season is cancelled.
- If there are enough athletes to form a C-Team, this position will receive additional compensation of $50 per C-Team game, reflecting the added time and responsibilities for both practices and games.
- Season Dates: December 19, 2025 - February 14, 2026
- Practices: Monday - Thursday, 4:00 - 5:15 PM
- Games: Start times vary between 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM (with minimal Saturday games)
- Game Locations: Throughout southern Colorado and the Denver area

Required Qualifications
- Ability to pass required background screenings (CRS § 22-30.5-110.7).
- CPR/First-Aid/AED certification (current or willing to obtain).
- Reliable transportation to all practices, games, and team events.
- Professionalism and adherence to Atlas Schools’ policies and procedures.
- Passion for athletics and working with middle school students.
- Experience coaching basketball or equivalent player development experience.
- Knowledge of basketball fundamentals and age-appropriate coaching strategies.
- Strong leadership, mentoring, and communication skills.
- Ability to assist in organizing practices, supporting game strategy, and managing team logistics.
- Commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive, and safe team environment.
Desired Qualifications
- Previous coaching experience with middle school athletes.
- Familiarity with local youth league rules or middle school athletic programs.
- Experience working with diverse or socioeconomically disadvantaged populations.
Essential Job Functions
- Attending all required practices and games.
- Standing, walking, and moving continuously for extended periods during practices and games.
- Demonstrating basketball movements such as running, jumping, pivoting, and defensive stances.
- Lifting, carrying, and moving equipment (typically up to 25-40 lbs).
- Safely reaching above shoulder height to retrieve or store equipment.
- Verbally communicating loudly and clearly in a gym or outdoor environment.
- Visually observing athletes across a full-size gym or court to provide instruction and ensure safety.
- Responding quickly in emergencies, including moving rapidly to assist an athlete.
- Working in varying indoor and outdoor conditions, including heat, noise, and extended durations of physical activity.
- Abiding by all policies and procedures of Atlas Schools.
