Position Overview:
We are a privately owned multi-family property management company seeking a Senior In-House Counsel to serve as our primary legal advisor. This is a hands-on role supporting a stable and growing residential portfolio, working closely with ownership on both day-to-day legal matters and key business decisions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as lead legal advisor to ownership and management
- Ensure compliance with state and federal laws and regulations
- Draft and negotiate leases, vendor agreements, and contracts
- Manage disputes and oversee outside counsel when needed
- Support company acquisitions, sales, and refinancing
- Advise on local zoning and operational compliance
- Partner closely with HR and operations leadership to align legal compliance with business needs
Job Qualifications:
Education and Experience
- JD and active license in Oklahoma (required)
- 5 years of relevant experience
- Real estate, landlord-tenant, or property management background preferred
- Comfortable working independently and in a team environment
Skills and Competencies:
- Solid understanding of compliance requirements
- Excellent contract drafting and negotiation skills
- Strong knowledge of landlord-tenant laws
- Practical, business-oriented judgment with the ability to balance risk and operations
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to advise non-legal teams clearly and effectively
- Experience handling disputes, managing outside counsel, and resolving issues efficiently
- High level of organization, responsiveness, and attention to detail
