Medical Assistant

Atlas Pain and Spine is looking for a professional medical assistant for a growing interventional pain management practice. Responsibilities include clinical and administrative task to assist in the day to day operation of the practice.

Clinical Care Duties:

• Places patients in exam rooms ensuring they are as comfortable as possible. Takes accurate histories and physical exam information. Obtains vital signs, secures complaint, enters the information on the patient’s chart.
• Assists physician, nurse practitioner or physician assistants with examination and treatment of patient. Being accessible to providers when needed.
• Assist physician with in office procedures using sterile procedure guidelines to ensure non-contamination of sterile field.
• Performs laboratory tests as required by the physicians or physician assistants.
• Screens telephone calls for the providers. Takes accurate clinical messages and updates patients on the clinicians response.
• Educates patients on treatment plan as dictated by physicians.
• Performs other related clinical duties as required.
• Ensures that all equipment in exam rooms are clean and properly set up prior to each patient encounter.
• Completes appropriate forms for prior authorizations
• Reviews patients’ charts prior to visits and preps patients charts when needed.
• Ensures that reports from diagnostic tests ordered have been received and available for physician review.

Scheduling and Administrative Duties:

• Schedules appointments for new patients, follow ups and procedures
• Schedules outside diagnostic tests for patients
• Submits and processes outgoing orders for providers
• Documents telephone calls accurately in EHR
• Maintains strict confidentiality
• Scans in paperwork and ensures charts are updated
• Performs other duties as required

Educational/Training/Experience Requirements:

1. High school education or G.E.D. equivalent, prior medical assistant experience in a medical practice or completion of a medical assistant program.

2. 1-2 years prior experience as a medical assistant in a medical practice is preferred.

3. Possesses the sense of discipline to work in accordance with accepted clinical standards.

4. Comply with all regulatory requirements including OSHA, maintenance of clinical skills and certifications, etc.

5. Be capable of dealing tactfully and effectively with patients, family members, other employees and physicians.

6. Accurate computer scheduling skills.

Working Conditions and Essential Physical Demands:

Physical Demands:

• Lifting Requirements: Assisted: 100 lbs.
• Frequency of Lifting: 0-25% of the time
• Pushing Requirements: 200 lbs.

Average percent of time during regular shift devoted to:

• Walking, Squatting, Sitting, Bending, Reaching: 25%
• Standing: 75%
• ​Position requires individual to be dressed in uniform 100% of time; 75% of time individual will be required to wear protective equipment including rubber gloves, face mask or lead apron.

Supervisor:

• Physician/Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant, Lead MA, Practice Manager

Work schedule:

• Monday - Thursday
• 7:30am - 5:30pm
• 40 hours per week
• **Some Fridays 8:00am-4:00pm

This position does require travel to our other office located in Corbin when needed.

Job Type: Full-time

Base Pay: $15.00 - $15.50 per hour
