ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements. Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, grinding wheels, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as cylindrical, surface, crankshaft, and internal grinders. Calculates and sets controls to regulate grinding factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media. Starts and observes grinding operations to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance grinding and adjusts machine controls or control media as required. Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to specifications. Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data. Fits and assembles parts into complete assembly including teardown repairs. Verifies dimensions and alignment of assembly. Installs machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, and equipment, and tests operations of unit to ensure functionality and performance. Develops specifications from general descriptions and draws sketches for parts or products to be manufactured or repaired. Confers with engineers, production personnel, or others to resolve grinding or assembly problems. Performs work safely and meets regulatory compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements. Performs other duties as assigned. REQUIREMENTS: Requires a High School diploma or equivalent. One to three years of experience and/or training as a Journeyman Machinist or equivalent combination of education and experience (Journeyman Certification is preferred). Must possess excellent communication and people skills. Strong diligence required. Possesses strong analytical skills. Works independently under the pressure of deadline commitments. Required understanding and comprehension of blueprints and designs from sketches. Requires the ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. Flexibility in the work schedule is needed to meet overtime requirements.
