I’m working with a long-established companion animal practice in Torrance that is looking to appoint a Medical Director who wants to lead clinically while remaining hands-on with cases. This is a privately owned hospital with a strong local reputation, an AAHA-accredited standard of care, and a culture built around collaboration, respect, and giving doctors the support they need to focus on medicine. The team currently includes three veterinarians, an experienced practice manager and HR manager, a dedicated lead technician, multiple technicians, client service staff, and a pharmacy assistant.
The hospital offers a genuinely well-supported clinical environment. Doctors benefit from 30–60 minute appointments, a dedicated RVT/technician each day, additional float and hospitalization technician support, a daily pharmacy assistant, blocked lunch breaks, and protected callback time. The last appointment starts one hour before the end of shift, which helps create a more sustainable working day. For someone stepping into leadership, this structure gives you the bandwidth to mentor colleagues, help shape protocols, and drive standards without being buried in avoidable inefficiencies.
From a clinical standpoint, the practice is equipped with electronic medical records, an in-house laboratory, digital radiography, ultrasound, and cold laser, alongside a broad small animal caseload covering preventative care, surgery, dentistry, diagnostics, and general medicine.
This would suit an experienced GP veterinarian who enjoys helping a team develop, values consistency in patient care and client communication, and wants to influence the direction of a respected hospital while still doing the clinical work they enjoy. Compensation is set at $200,000–$225,000 base plus production, with leadership responsibilities reflected in the base salary.
We are seeking a DVM to join on a flexible schedule, including 3 or 4 days per week. With occasional weekends required (Flexibility to negotiate!) this is the perfect role for a DVM to take a leadership role without the burnout of additional responsibilities eating into your free time!

About you:
- DVM or equivalent degree that allows you to practice veterinary medicine in the US
- You hold (or are eligible for) a licensure in California
- 5 years of small animal clinical experience
- Prior leadership, mentorship, or supervisory experience is strongly preferred
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative, team-focused approach to medicine
