About Atlas Brew Works

Atlas Brew Works has been brewing in Washington, DC since 2013. Now in our new home in Southeast DC, we're a growing, ambitious team focused on making world-class beer right here in the city. We're looking for a Shift Brewer who cares about quality, takes pride in a clean cellar, and wants to help us brew great beer.

The Role

As a Shift Brewer, you'll own your shift across the whole production floor, from mash-in to packaged beer. You'll work closely with the Head Brewer to plan each day's work, follow and improve our standard operating procedures, and make sure every batch meets our standards. This is a hands-on role for someone who likes working with their hands and paying close attention to detail.

What You'll Do

Brewhouse

  • Run a 30 bbl, 4-vessel brewhouse following recipes and SOPs precisely.
  • Take and record gravity, pH, temperature, and volume readings throughout the brew day.

Cellar

  • Perform yeast pitches, dry hopping, and tank transfers as needed.
  • Monitor fermentation and conditioning, and flag anything out of spec to the Head Brewer.
  • Run CIP cycles on fermenters, brite tanks, and transfer lines, and verify sanitation.

Packaging

  • Clean and fill kegs.
  • Support canning runs, including setup, operation, quality checks, and breakdown.

Quality, Safety & Records

  • Take part in sensory panels and quality checks, and help keep the beer consistent from batch to batch.
  • Keep accurate brew logs, cellar records, and inventory counts for TTB compliance.
  • Handle caustic, acid, and sanitizing chemicals safely, and follow safety protocols, including lockout/tagout and confined-space procedures.
  • Keep the brewery clean and organized.

What You Bring

Required

  • At least 1 year of professional brewing experience in a production brewery or brewpub
  • Working knowledge of brewhouse operations, fermentation, CIP, and sanitation practices
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accurate record keeping
  • Reliability, self-motivation, and good communication with a small team
  • Availability for early mornings, evenings, occasional weekends, and a flexible schedule based on production needs
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States
  • Must be 21 or older

Preferred

  • Formal brewing education (e.g., Siebel Institute, UC Davis, American Brewers Guild, or a similar program)
  • Canning line experience
  • Forklift certification
  • Sensory training or experience with lab and QC procedures

Physical Requirements

  • Lift 55 lbs repeatedly
  • Safely move full kegs (up to 165 lbs) using proper technique and equipment
  • Stand, walk, bend, and climb ladders or platforms for long stretches
  • Work in hot, cold, wet, and noisy conditions while wearing required PPE

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive hourly pay of $23–$26/hour
  • Health insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid time off and paid sick time
  • On-the-job training and a clear path to grow within the brewery
  • Employee discount and shift beers
