Job Description

The CT Technologist performs diagnostic testing according to established departmental procedures, ensuring the delivery of quality patient care. The CT Technologist performs diagnostic testing as directed by the physician at a competent technical level not requiring constant supervision. This position operates diagnostic equipment, including peripheral equipment, in a safe and efficient manner to obtain optimal test results. The CT Technologist manages the patient during the diagnostic procedure to meet patient care standards. This position ensures supplies are maintained and reports problems with equipment to the appropriate staff members. This position actively participates in and supports student clinical education activities where applicable. This position supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts and demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and cooperation.

Demonstrates the ability to perform the department specific competencies as listed on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Potential for exposure to the hazards and risk of the hospital environment, including exposure to infectious disease, blood-borne pathogens, potential injury, and hazardous substances, including electromagnetic radiation. Position requires the ability to stand a majority of the time; and require the ability to sit in front of a CRT monitor much of the time. Position requires extensive pushing, pulling and lifting of patients and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

UNIT

Population Served

Core competencies will be assessed primarily on the following patient population(s) serviced:

CT Imaging with and without contrast of cardio-pulmonary, vascular, neuro, GI, GU, GYN, skeletal/muscular conditions and diseases including but not limited to: PVD, CVA/TIA, COPD, CHF, HNP, oncology, etc..

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

This position reports to the CT Supervisor.

Qualifications

LICENSE: Licensed by the State of New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. Certified and registered with American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Radiography (R) and Computed Tomography (CT). Incumbents hired or transferred prior to 4/25 must obtain Computed Tomography (CT) certification within 18 months of hire or transfer date.

EXPERIENCE: Candidates must possess the ability to multitask, with attention to fine detail in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency in Clinical Applications preferred at time of hire; incumbents within position will be trained appropriately and then skill will be required for this position within 30-60 days from date of hire. Candidates will be required to receive training and certification in venipuncture for injection of contrast material if not certified already. NJDEP State License expires every two years and must be renewed biennially to work. ARRT expires on the incumbent’s date of birth and must be renewed annually to work.

Graduate of an accredited radiological technologist school required.

1 Yr. Diagnostic Testing Experience Preferred.

BLS for Healthcare Providers required.

Licensed by the State of NJ Department of Environmental Protection.

Certified and registered with American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Radiography (R) and Computed Tomography (CT). Incumbents hired or transferred prior to 4/25 must obtain Computed Tomography (CT) certification within 18 months of hire or transfer date.
