What are the responsibilities and job description for the Veterinary Assistant/Technician position at Atlantic Veterinary Hospital?
Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Assistant or Veterinary Technician to join our team for part-time hours (open to becoming full time later in the year). We have 4 full time veterinarians and run surgeries 4 days a week with appointments 7 days a week. Pay is commensurate with experience and skill level.
Duties
- Assist veterinarians during examinations and procedures by restraining animals and providing necessary tools.
- Perform routine tasks such as taking a detailed patient history, vital signs, and administering medications.
- Perform advanced techniques such as phlebotomy and radiology not required but beneficial.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the clinic, including exam rooms and treatment room.
- Provide front desk support by greeting clients, scheduling appointments, and handling basic inquiries as needed.
- Educate pet owners on proper animal care, including preventive health measures.
- Handle various types of animals with care and compassion
Requirements
- Previous experience in a veterinary clinic or similar environment is mandatory.
- Knowledge of animal husbandry practices is highly desirable.
- Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with clients and team members.
- Ability to work well under pressure while maintaining a calm demeanor around animals.
- A passion for animal welfare and commitment to providing high-quality veterinary care.
- Flexibility to work varied shifts as needed, including weekends. We are closed all major holidays and do not have on-call shifts.
