Job Summary:

The Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing routine clinical laboratory testing, specimen processing, and quality control procedures to support accurate and timely patient diagnosis and care. This role ensures compliance with regulatory standards, maintains laboratory equipment, and supports efficient laboratory operations.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None.

 

Duties/Responsibilities:

•    Collect, receive, label, process, and store laboratory specimens according to established protocols
•    Perform routine laboratory tests and procedures accurately and efficiently
•    Prepare specimens for analysis, transport, or referral to outside laboratories
•    Operate, calibrate, clean, and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments
•    Conduct quality control checks and document results in accordance with laboratory standards
•    Accurately record test results and enter data into the EHR
•    Follow all safety, infection control, and biohazard protocols
•    Ensure compliance with CLIA, OSHA, HIPAA, and other regulatory requirements
•    Maintain laboratory inventory and assist with ordering supplies as needed
•    Report abnormal findings, equipment malfunctions, or quality concerns to the Lab Manager
•    Assist with proficiency testing, audits, and inspections as required
•    Collaborate with clinical staff to ensure timely and accurate patient care
•    Perform other duties as assigned

 

Required Skills/Abilities: 

•    Accuracy and attention to detail
•    Knowledge of laboratory procedures, safety standards, and specimen handling
•    Strong attention to detail and accuracy
•    Basic computer skills and experience with EHR/LIS systems
•    Ability to follow written and verbal instructions precisely

 

Education and Experience:

•    High school diploma or equivalent required
•    Completion of an accredited laboratory technician, medical laboratory technician (MLT), or related program preferred
•    Previous experience in a clinical laboratory setting preferred


Physical Requirements: 

•    Ability to stand for extended periods
•    Manual dexterity to handle specimens and laboratory equipment
•    Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
•    Visual acuity to read labels, instruments, and test results
