The Director of Applications: Healthcare provides leadership, vision, and strategic direction for clinical and enterprise applications across the organization. This role oversees the design, development, implementation, and optimization of healthcare applications to support patient care, safety, and operational efficiency. The Director ensures compliance with interoperability standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices while managing staff and vendor relationships to deliver high-quality solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership & Management
- Direct and manage the Applications team, including hiring, mentoring, and performance evaluations.
- Develop staff education and training programs for onboarding and ongoing professional development.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Application Strategy & Operations
- Lead the planning, development, and maintenance of all clinical and operational applications.
- Implement enterprise application projects using established project management methodologies.
- Oversee application lifecycle management, including upgrades, patches, and end-of-life planning.
- Ensure robust change control and quality assurance processes.
- Interoperability & Compliance
- Advance interoperability initiatives internally and externally, ensuring alignment with healthcare standards (e.g., HL7, FHIR).
- Maintain compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including meaningful use and quality measurement standards.
- Partner with internal stakeholders and external vendors to meet evolving interoperability requirements.
- Vendor & Stakeholder Management
- Serve as the primary liaison between the organization and third-party application vendors.
- Negotiate contracts, manage vendor performance, and ensure timely delivery of solutions.
- Collaborate with clinical leadership, IT teams, and other departments to align technology with organizational goals.
- Clinical Informatics & Optimization
- Partner with clinicians to optimize EHR workflows and enhance end-user experience.
- Support data analytics initiatives to improve clinical and operational decision-making.
- Lead presentations and discussions with committees and workgroups on application strategy.
