Responsibilities
Surgical Technician Duties:
- Prepare the operating room for procedures, ensuring all instruments and supplies are available and properly set up per surgeon’s preference.
- Assist the surgeon during procedures by anticipating needs and maintaining a sterile field.
- Handle instruments and surgical equipment safely and efficiently throughout procedures.
- Verify counts of needles, and instruments before and after surgeries.
- Removal of waste and contaminate instruments and needles after each surgery.
- Clean, decontaminate, inspect, assemble, and sterilize surgical instruments and trays according to established protocols.
- Monitor and document sterilization cycles and quality control measures.
- Ensure all instruments and equipment are maintained in optimal working condition and report any issues promptly to the DON.
- Assists in inventory management, storing and stocking of supplies as directed, rotating stock and refrigerating inventory immediately if required.
- Performs other duties within scope of practice, as assigned by Director of Nursing.
- Strong understanding of aseptic techniques and sterilization procedures.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, single-room surgical environment.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
- Certified by an accredited agency as a Surgical Technician.
- Certified by an accredited agency as a Sterile Processor.
- High School diploma or GED.
