Job Summary
We are seeking a Lead Ophthalmic Technician for a small physician-owned ophthalmology and optometry office. This is a positive, supportive office environment with excellent administrative support and receptive, supportive leadership.
The technician will help open a new office in Rocky Hill and will be the lead ophthalmic technician. The lead ophthalmic technician is expected to work efficiently and competently, working up at least 3 patients an hour and obtaining imaging. There will be one doctor onsite at a time (mostly optometry). The ideal candidate is passionate about eye health, possesses strong clinical and administrative skills, and thrives in a collaborative team setting.
This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled technician who enjoys both patient care and leadership. The Lead Technician plays a key role in maintaining clinical excellence, supporting providers, training staff, and ensuring smooth daily operations.
Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive ophthalmic workups, including but not limited to:
- Visual acuity testing
- Assessment of angles
- Refractions
- Tonometry
- Pupillary assessments
- Visual field testing
- OCT imaging
- Fundus photography
- Lensometry
- Medication reconciliation and history collection
- Accurately document findings in the electronic medical record.
- Assist physicians and optometrists during patient examinations and procedures.
- Educate patients regarding medications, testing, procedures, and treatment plans.
- Maintain clinical equipment and ensure proper calibration and functionality.
Leadership & Team Development
- Serve as a resource and mentor for ophthalmic technicians.
- Assist with onboarding and training new clinical staff.
- Monitor clinical workflows and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Help establish and maintain clinical protocols and standards.
- Provide ongoing coaching and performance feedback to team members.
- Foster a positive, collaborative, and patient-focused culture.
Operations & Quality
- Ensure exam rooms and testing areas are fully stocked and prepared.
- Assist with scheduling and staffing coordination when needed.
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and practice policies.
- Support quality improvement initiatives and patient satisfaction efforts.
- Collaborate with management to improve efficiency and patient flow.
Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
