What are the responsibilities and job description for the Phlebotomist - PRN position at Atlantic Diagnostic Laboratories LLC?
Summary:
The Phlebotomist provides phlebotomy services by collecting specimens for use by clinicians and/or medical technologists for clinical analyses, evaluations, and/or diagnostic procedures. She/he
performs clerical, patient care, and limited technical support for laboratory clients.
Essential Functions:
- Be alert and aware at all times to ensure safety, accuracy, and efficiency.
- Perform venipuncture, capillary sampling, and heel punctures, (e.g. labeling of specimens, transporting, and centrifuging, and accurate recording of the status of patient specimens on the computerized draw list).
- Able to operate various computer systems and assist nursing staff with computer operating instructions.
- Inventory and request supplies, as necessary.
- Complete appropriate paperwork for each test, patient, and/or client thoroughly and accurately.
- Label specimens for identification purposes.
- Present a professional demeanor and dress according to company standards.
- Maintain clean and orderly work area.
- Follow proper laboratory safety procedures.
- Maintain efficient flow of verbal and written orders including, but not limited to timely arrival and on-call pages.
- Maintain required electronic and hardcopy departmental records.
- Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned by the department supervisor or director.
- Display competency, accuracy, and honesty while completing payment transactions.
Additional Functions:
- Special projects as required.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Graduation Certificate from a formal accredited Phlebotomy program.
- National Phlebotomy Certification - must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
- Strong communication skills – written, verbal, and listening.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Valid motor vehicle license, a reliable vehicle, and insurance to travel from site(s) to home office.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry 10 pounds, occasionally stand, walk, climb, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, and continuously handle and use fingers.
