Atlantic Design, Inc is an established leader in the design of custom equipment for the blasting and coating industry. We are currently seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team. The Engineer will assist with the design and development of mechanical systems, components and assemblies from design concepts through production to ensure an efficient, timely, and successful delivery to our customers.


This is a full-time position with benefits and possibilities for advancement.


Very limited remote work available. Candidates must be able to commute to our office daily, which is essential for working with our production team.


Job Responsibilities:


  • Execute Engineering Design Projects: Create initial design concepts, refine and develop into fully functional products and deliver complete design packages. Deliver detailed 3D models and 2D drawings for manufacturing and assembly suitable for both in-house and outsourced production. Utilize previous successful designs where applicable to meet project specifications.
  • Analyze Customer Specifications: Collaborate with the sales and operations to review customer proposals and specifications. Develop clear design requirements and communicate them effectively to internal and external customers.
  • Project Management: Develop and manage project plans, maintain projects schedules and milestones. Monitor progress throughout the project life cycle and resolve project issues in a timely and efficient manner. Consult with engineering team, production, purchasing, and other departments to efficiently deliver projects, on time and within budget, and meeting all customer specifications and quality requirements,
  • Maintain Bills of Material (BOM): Create and manage accurate Bills of Material (BOM) in ERP/MRP software to support product lifecycle management (PLM), quoting and estimating, procurement, production planning, and project management.
  • Source Components and Materials: Identify and source components when required for complete unit functionality. Provide accurate information to the purchasing department to facilitate timely procurement.
  • Customer Communication: Function as the primary point of contact with customers to set project expectations, address concerns, and provide progress updates. Ensure customer requirements are met throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure Compliance and Quality: Ensure all designs comply with relevant regulations, industry standards, and internal quality standards to ensure customer satisfaction and company reputation.
  • Perform Additional Duties as Needed: Adapt to additional responsibilities as needed to support the engineering team and the company's overall goals.


Salary:

The salary range for this position is $90,000 to $120,000, depending upon experience and training needed.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor/master's degree in mechanical engineering or a related engineering field.
  • 5 years of mechanical engineering design experience within a manufacturing setting.
  • Proficient with SolidWorks or similar CAD design software for creating 3D CAD Models and 2D manufacturing drawings per ASME Y14.5.
  • Practical and working knowledge manufacturing processes, including but not limited to machining, welding and sheet-metal forming.
  • Experience with MRP/ERP systems and integration with PLM/PDM for BOM Management, revision control, and production planning.
  • Strong analytical skills in performing engineering design calculations using hand calculations, FEA analysis, CFD analysis and tolerance stack-up analysis.
  • Creative and with strong problem-solving skills in executing engineering design projects, efficiently resolving project and product issues while ensuring on-time delivery within budget.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of clearly conveying complex technical information to individuals with varying levels of mechanical experience, from welders and fitters to end-use customers.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 products, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Ability to walk around the production facility to inspect equipment during construction and assist shop mechanics in troubleshooting design issues.
  • Willingness to work overtime as needed to meet project deadlines, with remote overtime capabilities provided.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Design experience in industrial equipment or a related field.
  • Prior experience in equipment sizing of electric motors, blowers and fans for generating air flow in vacuum systems are desirable.
  • Prior experience with pneumatic and hydraulic system design and schematics are desirable.
  • Prior experience with lean optimization, FEMA, DFMA for production and process optimization are desirable.
