About the Role
We are seeking a proactive and personable Recruitment Intern to support participant enrollment across multiple clinical trials. This role is primarily focused on direct outreach and communication with potential participants, including managing inbound and outbound calls, pre-screening candidates, and guiding individuals through the recruitment process.
The intern will play a key role in ensuring a smooth and efficient participant experience, helping convert initial interest into confirmed study visits. This role reports to the Recruitment Manager.
This role is heavily communication-focused and requires confidence speaking with members of the public via phone and in person.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct outbound calls to potential study participants to assess eligibility and interest
- Manage in-bound recruitment calls and inquiries, providing clear and professional information about ongoing studies
- Perform pre-screening of potential participants via telephone or internal recruitment platforms in accordance with study-specific inclusion and exclusion criteria
- Accurately document call outcomes and participant information within internal recruitment systems and provide regular updates to study and recruitment managers
- Proactively follow up with potential participants to support enrollment, reduce drop-off rates, and convert leads into scheduled study visits
- Identify and flag common participant questions or barriers to enrollment to support process improvements.
- Research and identify outreach opportunities aligned with study-specific recruitment needs, including local events, community groups, and relevant participant populations
- Attend relevant events where there is opportunity to promote studies and recruit potential participants in the Chicagoland area.
- Support with the creation of engaging digital and print materials to assist with recruitment campaigns when needed (e.g., social media graphics, flyers, advertisements).
- Assist with tracking, monitoring and reporting on recruitment and marketing performance metrics using internal trackers and basic analytics tools.
- Collaborate with recruitment and project teams to align marketing activities with study timelines and recruitment targets.
Required Education, Experience & Skills
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a bachelor’s degree in marketing, Communications, Business, Life Sciences, or a related field
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with confidence engaging with members of the public via phone and in person
- Comfortable conducting high volumes of outbound and inbound calls in a professional and friendly manner
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and follow up effectively
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy, particularly when recording participant information
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Proactive, self-motivated, and comfortable taking initiative in day-to-day tasks
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, target-driven recruitment environment
- Confident speaking directly with members of the public via phone and in person
- Willing to contribute to occasional on-camera content (e.g., informational or recruitment-related videos)
- Familiarity with social media platforms and basic content tools (e.g., Canva) is an advantage but not required
