Duties
- Review and verify medical records to ensure completeness and accuracy before billing
- Assign appropriate codes using CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) classifications
- Prepare and submit claims electronically through EMR (Electronic Medical Record) or EHR (Electronic Health Record) systems
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims promptly to facilitate medical collections
- Maintain detailed documentation of billing activities and patient accounts
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify billing details or coding discrepancies
- Stay updated on changes in medical coding standards, insurance policies, and compliance regulations
Requirements
- Proven experience in medical billing, coding, or healthcare administration with familiarity in medical office operations
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, medical records management, and billing procedures
- Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems and billing software platforms. Athena Health experience is a plus.
- In-depth understanding of CPT coding, ICD-9/ICD-10 coding systems, DRG classifications, and medical collection processes
- Ability to accurately interpret medical records and translate clinical information into proper codes
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy
- Effective communication skills to liaise with insurance companies, healthcare providers, and patients
