Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School (AJMLS’) is seeking to hire a dynamic Director of Advocacy Programs to join our team on a full-time basis. This role is responsible for The Director of Advocacy Programs will lead and coordinate advocacy programs, including all competitions related to moot court, mock trial, and negotiations; supervise student advocates; and engage with external partners to promote the law school’s mission of preparing practice-ready graduates through hands-on experiential learning.
Ideal Experience and Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree; significant experience in legal practice or advocacy. The ideal candidate must have strong working knowledge of trial Advocacy, coaching legal arguments, public speaking, and strategy development. This role will require minimal travel.
Core tasks and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Provide strategic leadership and oversight for the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Law School’s advocacy program.
- Develop, refine, and maintain advocacy curriculum, training modules, instructional materials, and resource guides to support student skill development.
- Recruit, engage, and retain students for participation in internal advocacy events and external competition teams.
- Recruit, supervise, and support faculty, adjuncts, alumni, and other qualified coaches for trial advocacy, moot court, negotiations, and additional competitive teams.
- Plan, administer, and promote internal competitions to advance student advocacy skills and program visibility.
- Plan, advertise, and manage tryout processes for selection to external advocacy teams.
- Collaborate with faculty and administration to design and manage an annual program budget that supports a comprehensive and competitive advocacy program.
- Attend practices and select competitions to ensure consistency of coaching methods, provide additional instructional support, and monitor team performance.
- Coordinate logistics, including travel arrangements, for external competition teams in partnership with relevant law school personnel.
- Identify and select appropriate external competitions each academic year and oversee the student team formation process
