DIRECTOR OF AQUATICS
Position Overview
The Aquatics Director is responsible for the overall leadership, organization, and management of the Atlanta Athletic Club's aquatic facilities and programs. This role oversees daily operations, staff supervision, programming, safety, and member satisfaction. The Aquatics Director ensures a safe, clean, and enjoyable environment for members and guests while aligning programs with the Club's mission and standards of excellence.
Primary Responsibilities
- Direct, plan, and oversee all aquatic operations including indoor and outdoor pools, swim programs, swim and dive team, and special events.
- Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and supervise lifeguards, swim instructors, and other aquatics staff.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate a variety of aquatic programs for members of all ages and abilities, including swim lessons, competitive swim, and family events.
- Ensure strict compliance with all health, safety, and risk management regulations, including maintaining required certifications and conducting regular safety drills.
- Oversee pool maintenance and cleanliness in coordination with facilities staff, ensuring all equipment and systems are properly functioning.
- Develop and manage the aquatics budget, including payroll, supplies, and capital needs.
- Monitor and evaluate program participation and satisfaction; adjust offerings to meet member needs and drive engagement.
- Build positive relationships with members and team members, addressing concerns promptly and professionally.
- Collaborate with other department directors on cross-functional programs and events.
- Stay current with industry trends and best practices to continuously enhance aquatics programming and safety.
- Supports the Athletics department in various projects during the aquatics off-season.
- Perform any other job related duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities:
- Proven leadership, staff management, and team-building skills.
- Strong organizational, communication, and customer service abilities.
- Knowledge of pool operations, maintenance, and health codes.
- Work performed in both indoor and outdoor aquatic facilities.
- Requires evening, weekend, and holiday availability based on Club programming and seasonal demand.
- Physical requirements include the ability to lift 50 pounds, remain on feet for extended periods, and perform rescues if necessary.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Sports Management, Physical Education, or related field (preferred).
- Minimum of 3–5 years of experience managing large aquatic facilities and programs.
- Current certifications in Lifeguard Training, CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer, and First Aid; Lifeguard Instructor and/or Water Safety Instructor certification also required.
