What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ambulance Dispatcher / Intake Coordinator position at ATI AMBULANCE?
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Dispatch Representative is responsible for receiving, recording and effectively managing requests for ambulance assistance/transport from various sources and being capable of working independently.
OBJECTIVE:
Dispatch is the first point of contact for facilities and patients. Our objective is to provide excellent customer service, determine the level of service that is required for safe transport based on patients need and financial responsibility and to initiate the appropriate response.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Answer phone calls providing fast, courteous and accurate information to patients and facilities.
- Responsible for keeping and abiding to daily schedule of transports for ATI, this includes scheduled transports and unscheduled transports from hospitals, facilities and residences.
- Responsible and accountable for completeness and accuracy of paperwork related to his/her position prior to completion of shift. Prior Authorizations, Credit Card Slips, Standing Order Requests, accuracy for patient demographics.
- Providing direction to each transport team on which clients they are picking up and where the calls originating from and destinations.
- Develop and maintain working knowledge of recurring patients/facilities/hospitals in Polk, Highlands, Osceola, and Hardee county.
- Develop general knowledge of various payor types and what they cover includes private pay, facility pay Medicare, Medicaid, insurance brokers and workers comp etc. and be able to provide accurate information to clients of whether their transports are covered and escalating to billing when any questions arise regarding payment for different types of transports
- Obtain prior authorizations when instructed by billing. Aiding facilities by providing contact numbers and websites for obtaining prior authorizations that they are responsible for.
- Assist in ongoing dialogue between administration, Operations, Billing and crews to ensure patients are being transported safely and financial responsibility can be met
- Develop daily logistical knowledge of the locations and status of all ongoing transports through the GPS tracking system including learning most direct routes from various posts and using critical thinking to place trucks effectively for timely transport of the pts based off the daily scheduled calls.
- Review the dispatch log located in Zoll daily to make sure you are familiar with any changes going on or updated patient information.
- Maintains a current working knowledge of all company policies, procedures, rules and regulations
- Office duties include keeping work space clean and organized, computer skills including comprehension of all computer-based programs, websites, portals, GPS tracking and texting programs that are used in dispatch.
Education/Licensing/Certification:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience:
- Must have some medical training or telecommunications experience
- Experience with medical terminology
- Any professional medical certification
Knowledge and Skills:
- Skilled in reading and writing English.
- Ability to communicate clearly on the radio and telephone.
- Ability to record, transmit, and report information accurately.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Possess good typing skills with speed and accuracy necessary to efficiently process emergency and nonemergency calls.
- Ability to understand basic computer applications.

Pay: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour
