THE OPPORTUNITY

Athletic Republic is seeking a high-level leader to oversee training, staff development, and daily operations at one of our Metro Detroit training centers.

This role will be filled at either our Shelby Township or Commerce Township location based on candidate fit.

The Sports Performance Manager will play a key role in delivering an exceptional athlete experience while leading a team of performance coaches and supporting the continued growth of the business.

This role is best suited for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, performance-driven environment and is motivated by developing both athletes and people.

THE ROLE

The Sports Performance Manager is a key role within the Athletic Republic Shelby/Commerce team.  Reporting directly to the General Manager (owner) the Manager is responsible for leading the training environment, managing the coaching staff, and overseeing the day-to-day operation of the facility, while actively working with athletes on the floor. This role carries ownership over how training is delivered—not just the execution of sessions. This role blends:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Training & Athlete Development

• Deliver high-quality performance training from youth up through collegiate and professional athletes, while also having an understanding for general population
• Lead athlete evaluations and onboarding
• Ensure a consistent, results-driven training experience
  

Performance Programming & Team Integration

• Oversee the implementation and quality of performance and strength programming across all athletes
• Ensure training programs are aligned with Athletic Republic protocols while meeting the needs of individual athletes
• Support and help execute programming for team training and club partnerships
• Collaborate with coaches and staff to ensure consistency and progression across all training environments

Team Leadership & Development

• Foster a culture of accountability, energy, and continuous improvement
• Train, mentor, lead, and develop a high-performing coaching staff
• Manage scheduling and staffing to optimize efficiency
• Provide input on hiring decisions and participate in the interview process when appropriate
  

Athlete Experience & Retention

• Oversee athlete progress tracking and performance assessments
• Communicate effectively with athletes and parents
• Coordinate with ownership and business development staff to support client retention initiatives and overall athlete experience
• Drive retention, referrals, and long-term athlete success

Community & Business Development

• Build relationships with local coaches, teams, and organizations
• Support partnerships and outreach efforts
• Assist in generating new athlete opportunities

Operations

• Oversee daily operations of the training center
• Maintain a clean, organized, and high-performance environment
• Support ownership in executing key initiatives

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

• Degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or related field
• Strong understanding of sports performance training principles
• Experience leading, coaching, or mentoring others

Preferred:

• 3-5 years experience training athletes (youth through adult)
• Certifications (NSCA, CSCS, NASM, etc.)
• Previous leadership or management experience
