Traveling Equine Veterinary Assistant

Do you love horses, enjoy traveling, and thrive in a fast-paced environment? Athletic Equine Veterinary Services is looking for a motivated, dependable, and hardworking Equine Veterinary Assistant to join our team!
This is a unique opportunity to travel the country providing veterinary care to performance horses at some of the nation's premier Quarter Horse shows.
Position Overview
This position requires approximately 25 weeks of travel per year, primarily to major Quarter Horse shows across the United States. We're looking for someone who is comfortable with an unconventional schedule, long show days, and working in a busy, hands-on environment. During our time at home, we operate normal Monday-Friday 9am-5pm business hours with 3-4 days a week making farm calls.
Responsibilities Include:
- Safely handling and restraining horses during veterinary examinations and procedures
- Assisting the veterinarian with diagnostics, treatments, and procedures
- Preparing and maintaining veterinary equipment and supplies
- Setting up and breaking down our mobile veterinary operation at horse shows
- Maintaining accurate records, inventory, and an organized workspace
- Interacting professionally with clients, trainers, and exhibitors
- Assisting with daily operations both at home and on the road
Ideal Candidate:
- Has strong horse-handling skills and experience around performance horses
- Is dependable, organized, self-motivated, and detail-oriented
- Has a positive attitude and strong work ethic
- Can work independently and anticipate what needs to be done
- Is comfortable traveling extensively and working long hours during shows
- Communicates professionally and works well as part of a small team
- Has prior veterinary experience (preferred, but not required for the right candidate)
