Position Overview: The Trimble Local School District seeks a visionary, data-driven Literacy Coach to lead the implementation of a transformative literacy initiative to improve student outcomes In grades K-5. This role will support a multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) and will be instrumental in implementing evidence-based literacy instruction aligned with our district's literacy plan. The coach will build teacher capacity, support interventions, strengthen Tier I instruction, and engage families and community partners to ensure every child becomes a proficient reader and writer.
Reports to: Principal
Key Responsibilities: Instructional Coaching & Teacher Support
- Provide individualized and small-group coaching aligned with Ohio's Model for Instructional Coaching for Literacy.
- Model explicit, systematic literacy instruction grounded in the Science of Reading, including The Writing Revolution (Hochman Method), IMSE Orton-Gillingham, IMSE Morphology, and Comprehensive Plus.
- Use curriculum-based professional learning to strengthen Tier I instruction and differentiation.
- Collaborate with teachers to plan and refine lessons using high-quality instructional materials such as Reading Wonders.
- Facilitate grade-level data meetings, assist with TBT (Teacher-Based Teams), and help analyze assessment data (STAR, Accidence, Language Screen) to inform instruction.
- Model and provide Tier I, II, and IIT interventions to students.
Intervention Support & MTSS
- Collaborate with: (Multidisciplinary Teams) to analyze universal screening and progress monitoring data to target Tier 2 and Tier 3 supports.
- Help identify at-risk students using diagnostic tools and support implementation of supplemental and intensive interventions.
- Provide coaching and support for structured literacy interventions, including for students with dyslexia and gifted learners.
- Administer dyslexia screening tools and benchmark tools and record student data.
- Help in the development of student Reading Improvement and Monitoring Plans.
Professional Development
- Lead professional learning sessions on evidence-based practices in reading and writing.
- Train and support staff in tools such as IMSE, Orton-Gillingham, and Morphology. STAR reports, and dyslexia screeners.
- Participate in Department-led coaching development and conduct learning walks with educators three times per year.
- Help lead the implementation and refinement of a multi-year coaching plan aligned with school improvement goals.
Family & Community Engagement
- Work with the Elementary Parent Advisory Committee and the Athens County Library to plan and implement literacy outreach programs during the school year and summer.
- Coordinate family education opportunities around reading strategies, dyslexia awareness, and promoting literacy at home.
- Strengthening partnerships with Athens County Library, Athens County Children Services, and The Reading Fairies to provide access to books and literacy programming,
Minimum Qualifications:
- Masters degree in education with reading or literacy endorsement on an Ohio teaching license.
- 3-5 years of successful classroom experience in reading literacy instruction.
- Demonstrated expertise in structured literacy and the Science of Reading.
