Part-Time / Substitute / On-Call
ATG Entertainment is seeking a dependable, hardworking, and detail-oriented Substitute Porter to support the operations of the historic Walter Kerr Theatre, home of Hadestown on Broadway.
The Substitute Porter will assist in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for our guests, employees, performers, and production personnel. This is an on-call position that provides coverage for regularly scheduled Porter staff as needed. Candidates should have flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and performance times.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of public and back-of-house areas throughout the theatre.
- Clean and sanitize restrooms, lobbies, stairways, offices, dressing room areas, and other assigned spaces.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and perform other routine cleaning duties.
- Remove trash and recycling and replace liners as necessary.
- Restock restroom and janitorial supplies.
- Respond promptly to spills, restroom issues, and other cleaning needs during performances and events.
- Assist with pre-show, post-show, and between-performance cleaning as assigned.
- Properly use and maintain cleaning supplies and equipment.
- Follow established safety procedures and report maintenance, safety, or sanitation concerns to management.
- Work cooperatively with theatre management, production personnel, security, front-of-house employees, and other members of the theatre team.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Previous custodial, porter, housekeeping, or commercial cleaning experience is preferred.
- Reliable and punctual, with the ability to report for scheduled or short-notice shifts when available.
- Strong attention to detail and pride in maintaining a clean and professional environment.
- Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to follow instructions and established cleaning and safety procedures.
- Professional demeanor and ability to work appropriately around guests, performers, and employees.
- Ability to remain productive in a busy, fast-paced theatrical environment.
- English AND Spanish speaking a plus.
Physical Requirements
This position requires regular standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling. The Substitute Porter must be able to safely perform the physical duties associated with cleaning and maintaining a multi-level theatre and use stairs throughout the workday.
Schedule
This is a substitute/on-call position with no guaranteed number of hours. Shifts are scheduled based on operational and staffing needs. Availability for evenings, weekends, holidays, and Broadway performance schedules is strongly preferred.
Compensation
$25 per hour
