Role Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Reinsurance Accountant to join our finance and accounting team. In this role, you will be responsible for understanding, tracking, and administering the company’s reinsurance programs and will serve as the main point of contact for all reinsurance-related information. You will play a crucial role in ensuring accuracy and compliance in all accounting activities related to reinsurance, billings, and collateral. The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in reinsurance accounting, a proactive and solutions-oriented mindset, and the ability to manage reinsurance partner relationships to ensure accurate financial reporting and effective program management.
Responsibilities:
- Review, interpret and track reinsurance contracts and terms, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements
- Provide guidance to the data team on the application of reinsurance terms to ceded premiums, commissions, and losses
- Monitor and report on reinsurance recoverables and claims, resolving any issues or discrepancies as needed
- Prepare and maintain reinsurance account reconciliations
- Coordinate with internal departments, including underwriting, actuarial, and claims, to ensure accurate and timely processing of reinsurance transactions
- Prepare periodic reinsurance reports on premiums and losses
- Track and estimate collateral requirements and reinsurer ratings
- Prepare Schedule F in support of the statutory Annual Statement
- Develop and maintain working relationships with reinsurance brokers and reinsurers
- Stay current on changes in reinsurance markets and industry trends, assessing their potential impact on the company’s reinsurance program
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 3-5 years of experience in reinsurance accounting roles
- Strong understanding of reinsurance principles, practices, and methodologies
- Knowledge of statutory accounting principles (SAP), including Schedule F reporting
- Advanced Excel skills; experience with data analysis tools preferred
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- High attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy and data integrity
- Effective communicator with the ability to collaborate across functions and with external partners
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
