Job Description 

 

Purpose: The Business Coordinator collaborates with the business department and district administration to support accurate accounting and reporting of the District's finances. They also work to develop and maintain the District's accounting resources and operating systems. Manages and oversees district payroll. Provide reports to the district administration and the Board of Education. To audit and review the District accounting functions in support of the District educational program. Will serve as the District appointed Treasurer.

 

Reports To: Director of Operations 

 

FLSA Status: Exempt – Salaried 

 

Salary: $50,000.00-$70,000.00 per year commensurate with experience 

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited institution 
  • Technical knowledge and understanding of general accounting standards and internal control procedures to minimize potential fraud
  • Skills in human relations, with an understanding of human resource regulations, practices, and procedures
  • Ability to plan and organize and exhibit effective work habits
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from the Board, administrators, and school staff
  • High level of skill with Microsoft Office Suite and accounting software (Skyward) 
  • Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the District Office (after an employment offer is made)

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Masters' degree in Accounting, Finance, or MBA
  • 3-plus years of experience working in the field of accounting or finance. 
  • Experience working in a school or government accounting/finance setting
  • Experience with employee benefits administration. 

 

 

Essential Functions:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily

  • Assist in the prepare, examine, analyze, and process employee payroll and benefits monthly
  • Compute and process employee KPERS payments, state and federal taxes, unemployment taxes, ensuring compliance with payment, reporting, and other tax requirements
  • Collaborates with the Human Resources Department regarding salaries and employee benefits administration
  • Analyzes and collaborates with the all departments on all financial reports related to district grants and programs
  • Report to district administration regarding the finances of the District.
  • Prepare, examine, and analyze accounting records, financial statements, and other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards
  • Analyze business operations, trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations, to project future revenues and expenses or to provide advice
  • Analyze and balance all-district checking, money market, and investment accounts monthly, quarterly, and yearly 
  • Develop, maintain, and analyze budgets, preparing periodic reports that compare budgeted costs to actual costs
  • Develop, implement, modify, and document recordkeeping and annual budget utilizing the Skyward Business Package
  • Collaborate with the Director of Operations to develop and manage the district budget. 
  • Prepares and pulls reports for district financial audits throughout the year 
  • Prepare forms and manuals for accounting and bookkeeping personnel, and coordinate work activities of accounts payable, payroll administrator, and the treasurer
  • Survey operations to ascertain accounting needs and to recommend, develop, and maintain solutions to financial problems
  • Advise district administration about issues such as resource utilization, strategies, and the assumptions underlying budget forecasts
  • Develop and document internal control measures and procedures to ensure compliance with all state and federal requirements
  • Assist administration in areas such as compensation, employee health care benefits, and employee defined contribution programs
  • Support, monitor, and report for state and federal programs, including impact aid and Local Consolidated Plan. 
  • Complete surveys and reports as directed
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Regular and consistent attendance at work

  • Requires prolonged sitting or standing, and use of equipment including repetitive motions and computer eye fatigue
  • Requires some stooping, bending, reaching, and lifting
  • Hear and understand English at normal levels, indoors, outdoors, and on the telephone 
  • Requires physical exertion to move manually, lift, carry, pull or push heavy objects or materials up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 25 pounds 
  • Must occasionally work in noisy and crowded environments, with numerous interruptions

 

Terms of Employment: At-will employment. 12-month (2,000 hour) contract. 

 

Evaluation:   Performance evaluations in accordance with the Board's policy and the Administrator Employee Handbook
