Position Summary
The Telemetry RN is responsible for the delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. You will continuously monitor heart rhythms (ECG/EKGs), administer critical cardiac medications, manage complex drips, and intervene quickly during acute changes in patient conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Cardiac & Telemetry Monitoring: Continuously assess and interpret cardiac rhythms, recognize arrhythmias, and report abnormalities to the medical team.
- Patient Care: Provide direct, bedside nursing care to patients with acute cardiac issues, post-stroke complications, and those requiring cardiac-respiratory observation.
- Medication Administration: Safely calculate, prepare, and administer cardiac and IV medications.
- Collaboration: Work closely with cardiologists, neurologists, hospitalists, and support staff to ensure safe, holistic, and coordinated care.
- Patient Education: Instruct patients and their families on heart-healthy lifestyles, medication management, and warning signs.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate, timely electronic health records utilizing the Epic electronic medical record (EMR) system.
Qualifications
- Education: Graduate of an accredited Registered Nursing program. BSN or MSN preferred.
- License/Certification: Valid, unencumbered RN license in the State of Virginia.
- Life Support: Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of recent acute care RN experience is highly preferred. Previous telemetry, step-down, or ICU experience is ideal.
