What are the responsibilities and job description for the Correctional Nurse position at ATC Healthcare?
Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough medical assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and health histories for inmates and detainees.
- Administer medications and injections accurately, including IV infusions and specialized treatments such as botulinum toxin therapy when appropriate.
- Perform diagnostic evaluations, specimen collection, and processing using laboratory experience and EMR/EHR systems like Epic or Cerner.
- Manage acute pain, perform suturing, wound care, ostomy care, and assist with procedures such as catheterizations and tube feedings.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on case management plans for chronic conditions like geriatrics, memory care, behavioral health, infectious disease care, and hospice & palliative medicine.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and maintain meticulous medical documentation in electronic health records.
- Respond effectively to emergencies utilizing critical care response procedures including airway management, ventilator support, trauma medicine, and Level I or II trauma center protocols.
Qualifications
- Valid nursing license with current registration; experience in correctional or long-term care settings highly preferred.
- Demonstrated proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner; familiarity with ICD-9/ICD-10 coding is advantageous.
- Critical care experience including ICU or emergency medicine is highly desirable; knowledge of trauma medicine and acute care procedures is essential.
- Strong clinical skills in medication administration, IV insertion, phlebotomy, aseptic technique, suturing, and specimen collection.
- Experience working with diverse populations including pediatrics, geriatrics, individuals with disabilities or developmental disabilities, and those requiring specialized mental health or behavioral health care.
- Ability to perform physical examinations confidently while adhering to infection control standards; excellent patient assessment skills are required.
- Knowledge of Workers' Compensation law and familiarity with healthcare standards such as NCQA standards is a plus.
Pay: $42.00 - $52.00 per hour
