Job Overview
Our law firm is seeking a motivated and client-focused Associate Attorney to join our team on a contract basis, handling cases in the practice areas of employment and personal injury. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney who wants meaningful casework, flexible full-time scheduling, and the freedom of independent practice — without the burden of building a client base from scratch.
Responsibilities
- Manage and litigate cases from intake through resolution
- Draft pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, and correspondence
- Conduct legal research and provide case strategy recommendations
- Communicate regularly with clients, keeping them informed of case status
- Attend hearings, depositions, and mediations as needed (remote when available)
- Maintain accurate and timely case notes and documentation
- Meet court deadlines and comply with all applicable rules of professional conduct
- Engage in negotiations with opposing counsel or parties to achieve favorable outcomes for clients
- Coordinate with firm leadership on case strategy, settlement negotiations, and client updates
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
- Active license to practice law in the State of Montana in good standing
- 2–5 years of experience preferred
- Familiarity with FLSA, Title VII, the Montana Human Rights Act, and related employment statutes is a plus
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage a caseload independently and meet deadlines without close supervision
- Comfortable working in a technology-driven environment

- This is not an employee position; you will be responsible for your own taxes, benefits, and health insurance
- You will be required to sign an Independent Contractor Agreement prior to beginning work
- All work must comply with the Montana Rules of Professional Conduct and applicable bar requirements

Compensation for this role is non-traditional and designed to reward results. Details will be tailored to the right candidate and outlined in the Independent Contractor Agreement.
