Personal Injury Litigation Attorney

ATLAW | Dearborn, Michigan | Full-Time, On-Site

About ATLAW

ATLAW is a growing personal injury law firm in Dearborn serving Metro Detroit and communities across Michigan. We manage a high-volume pre-litigation and litigation practice, roughly 400 active cases, built on a simple core value: unreasonable hospitality for every client. We have invested heavily in modern operations, documented workflows, structured case tracking, and AI-supported systems, and we are hiring litigators who want to try cases and move files, not fight their own back office.

The Role

This is a first-chair litigation seat. You will carry your own docket of 100 to 120 auto and trucking files, primarily third-party bodily injury and first-party no-fault, from suit through resolution. You own your cases: pleadings, written discovery, depositions, motion practice, facilitation and case evaluation, settlement negotiation, and trial preparation.

You will not do this alone. You are paired with a dedicated legal assistant, and you have full access to the firm’s AI-driven litigation infrastructure, built in-house by our CEO. That includes automated discovery response drafting, medical records compilation and demand generation, integrated Smartsheet case tracking, and document intake automation. The systems handle the repetitive volume so your judgment goes where it belongs: case strategy, damages development, and the client.

This role carries a defined, benchmark-based path to partnership, described below.

What You Will Own

  • Your docket. Independent management of 100 to 120 active auto and trucking litigation files, with accountability for case posture, aging, and outcome on every one. Case development. Liability and damages workup, provider coordination, treatment monitoring, fee-schedule analysis under MCL 500.3157, and building each file toward its maximum defensible value. Written advocacy. Complaints, discovery responses that actually answer the question, dispositive and evidentiary motions, briefs, and pretrial submissions on firm pleading standards. Depositions and hearings. Plaintiff, defendant, treater, and expert depositions; motion hearings; facilitation, case evaluation, and settlement conferences across Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, and outstate venues. Resolution strategy. Timely demands, disciplined negotiation, and clear-eyed recommendations to the client on when to settle and when to try the case. Client experience. Direct, proactive client communication that earns five-star outcomes. Client satisfaction is measured and it gates your bonus. Deadline integrity. Nothing is missed. Demands go out on schedule, filings are timely, and the docket is current. Origination (optional, and paid). Referral and account origination is not required, but it is directly compensated. Attorneys who build a book earn materially more.

What You Bring

  • Licensed and in good standing with the State Bar of Michigan. Three or more years of plaintiff-side personal injury litigation experience. Trucking, catastrophic injury, or Michigan no-fault experience is strongly preferred. Demonstrated ability to carry an independent docket of 75 or more files without daily supervision. Tell us the number you have actually managed. Real deposition and motion practice experience. Trial experience is a significant plus. Working command of Michigan no-fault law, including the 2019 reform amendments, MCL 500.3135 threshold litigation, and allowable expense claims. Comfort with technology. You do not need to be technical, but you need to be willing to work inside a documented, tracked, AI-supported system rather than around it. Sound judgment about volume. You can move fast without cutting corners, and you know the difference between resolving a case and giving one away. On-site presence in Dearborn.

Compensation and Benefits

Total compensation ranges from $100,000 to well beyond $300,000, depending on level, performance, and origination. Attorneys are hired into a defined level with a published salary band and a formula-driven bonus plan. There is no guesswork and no discretionary black box on the production side.

Level

Base Salary Range

Bonus Factor (at target performance)

Annual Settlement Target

Attorney II

$100,000 – $115,000

17.5% – 22.5%

$6,000,000

Attorney III

$120,000 – $160,000

20.0% – 25.0%

$9,000,000

Attorney IV

$175,000 – $306,250

Set by the Board

$12,000,000

  • Base salary. Set within your level’s band based on experience, with annual merit increase consideration calculated on a published compa-ratio matrix against your performance score. Attorney Bonus Plan — fees (AB1). A percentage of the bonus base generated by your assigned cases. Your bonus factor rises with both your level and your annual performance score. Attorney Bonus Plan — origination (AB2). Forty percent of the referral fee value on accounts you bring into the firm, plus a reduction in the company referral expense charged against your bonus base. Origination is where the ceiling comes off. Settlement performance incentive. Your eligible bonus is adjusted by four multipliers: gross settlement volume against target, deadline compliance, case resolution velocity, and firm-wide team performance. Client satisfaction gate. At least eighty percent of client reviews on your docket must be five-star for the bonus to unlock in full. Volume alone does not earn the bonus here. Benefits. Health insurance, 401(k) with company match, generous paid time off, bar dues, CLE, and full case-cost support.

Path to Partnership

The partnership track is written down, benchmarked, and reviewed on a defined schedule, not left to a conversation someday.

  • Attorney II to Attorney III. Sustained performance score of 3.75 or higher, settlement attainment at or above one hundred percent of target for a full evaluation period, a clean deadline record, and independent handling of the full litigation cycle. Attorney III to Attorney IV. Two consecutive evaluation periods at or above target, demonstrated origination, first-chair trial or dispositive motion results, and mentorship of junior attorneys. Attorney IV to Equity Partner. Consideration begins after a defined tenure at Attorney IV with a sustained book of business, consistent attainment above target, and firm-wide leadership contribution. Terms are set by the Board.

Advancement is reviewed at each annual evaluation period. Benchmarks are given to you in writing on day one so you always know exactly where you stand and what the next seat requires.

How We Hire

Our process is designed to be fast and honest: an initial conversation, a role-fit assessment, a case-strategy working session on a real file scenario, a writing sample review, and reference checks. We move quickly for the right person.

All candidates will be asked to complete an assessment as part of the process.

To apply, send your resume, a writing sample, and a short note on the toughest case you have taken from suit to resolution to mja@atlawgroup.com.
