Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive dialysis care, including vascular access management, machine setup, and monitoring during treatment sessions.
- Conduct thorough patient assessments, including vital signs, fluid status, and laboratory data interpretation to tailor dialysis protocols.
- Administer medications and injections as prescribed, ensuring adherence to aseptic techniques and safety standards.
- Educate patients and their families on dialysis procedures, post-treatment care, and lifestyle modifications for optimal health management.
- Collaborate with physicians, nephrologists, and other healthcare professionals to develop individualized care plans.
- Maintain accurate medical documentation within electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Monitor for complications such as hypotension, bleeding, or infection during dialysis sessions and respond promptly to emergencies like airway obstruction or acute pain episodes.
Qualifications
- Valid nursing license with current registration in the relevant state.
- Proven experience in dialysis nursing, preferably within an acute care environment or hospital setting.
- Strong knowledge of physiology related to renal function and dialysis procedures.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems including Epic and Cerner platforms.
- Competence in IV infusion therapy, venipuncture, catheter care, and aseptic technique.
- Ability to perform patient assessments accurately and respond effectively to emergent situations such as airway management or acute pain management.
- Experience working with diverse patient populations including those with developmental disabilities, memory care needs, or in long-term care settings is highly desirable.
