Position Summary
At Grade Inc. is seeking a skilled and safety-focused Heavy Equipment Operator to join our growing excavation team. The ideal candidate will have experience operating heavy construction equipment in earthwork, site development, utility installation, and grading projects. This position requires a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and quality workmanship.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Safely operate heavy equipment including:
- Excavators
- Dozers
- Wheel Loaders
- Skid Steers
- Motor Graders
- Rollers
- Off-road Haul Trucks
- Backhoes
- Perform excavation, grading, trenching, backfilling, and material handling.
- Read and interpret grade stakes, site plans, and utility layouts.
- Work around existing underground utilities safely.
- Perform daily equipment inspections and complete pre/post-trip reports.
- Identify equipment maintenance needs and report mechanical issues promptly.
- Maintain production goals while ensuring quality workmanship.
- Follow all OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and project-specific safety requirements.
- Work closely with foremen, pipe crews, laborers, and survey personnel.
- Assist with manual labor when equipment operation is not required.
- Keep equipment clean and properly maintained.
- Ensure work areas remain clean, organized, and safe.
Qualifications
- Experience operating heavy construction equipment.
- Experience in excavation, earthwork, underground utilities, or site development. (preferred)
- Ability to read grade stakes and construction plans is preferred.
- Knowledge of proper excavation techniques and trench safety.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Dependable with excellent attendance.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit for extended periods while operating equipment.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Frequently climb in and out of equipment.
- Work outdoors in heat, cold, rain, mud, and uneven terrain.
- Ability to work overtime.
Safety Expectations
- Wear required PPE at all times.
- Conduct daily equipment & vehicle inspections.
- Participate in safety meetings and job hazard analyses.
- Immediately report unsafe conditions or incidents.
