Job Overview
This is an on-site role at 10 Gill Street, Suite J, Woburn, MA. The position requires expertise in process chemistry for developing synthetic routes, optimizing existing chemical processes, and scaling up production of key synthetic intermediates and APIs. The role involves multi-step synthesis, process development, and troubleshooting. Scientists will use modern analytical tools to assess product identity and purity, collaborate with senior chemists, and participate in tech transfer and cGMP activities. Regular client communication and preparation of R&D reports are expected.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Lead development projects including data interpretation, problem-solving, client meetings, and timeline/budget management.
- Communicate project updates effectively in both oral and written formats.
- Design and execute independent laboratory experiments.
- Develop scalable and safe manufacturing processes for target molecules.
- Troubleshoot complex chemistry problems and process issues.
- Utilize modern analytical techniques (HPLC, GC, NMR, MS, XRPD).
- Apply principles of reaction kinetics, solubility, crystallization, mass and heat transfer, and process safety.
- Stay current with scientific literature and manage IP strategy.
- Contribute to internal tech transfer and collaborate across teams.
- Participate in scale-up activities in the kilo lab.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols and chemical hygiene plans.
- Support setup and maintenance of the new R&D center laboratory.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Experience Requirements - Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (KSAs):
- PhD in Organic Chemistry with 3-5 years of relevant experience
Or
- Master’s degree (MS) with 5-10 years of equivalent experience in process development, tech transfer, or manufacturing in pharmaceutical or CDMO settings.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Proven ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment
- Excellent planning and organizational skills, with the ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced setting
- Demonstrated success in process research and development, including scale-up of chemical processes
- Familiarity with GMP compliance and ICH quality guidelines is preferred
