POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Product Engineer will fill a key role within the Global Product Engineering organization. This position will have primary responsibility for various projects and ad hoc deliverables required by the Supply Chain including but not limited to: repair cost reduction initiatives and efficiency improvements, assessments of capabilities, process improvements, time and yield studies, support of OEM and 3rd party repair and software tooling, quality assurance activities, data collection, analysis and various other duties as assigned. This position will be based in Orlando, Florida with a primary workspace at the UBIF Repair Operations Center (UROC or “the Depot”).

ESSENTIAL JOB SKILLS/DUTIES:

  • The position will assist in driving results through data driven decisions, solid scientific methodologies, excellent documentation, project planning, execution, and analytics and through collaboration with both Asurion and UBIF stakeholders.
  • This individual will be responsible for a wide range of activities to include project management, process development, research, test method analysis and document preparation while working with other departments locally and globally.
  • The candidate must be customer centric, self-sufficient and be able to balance the demands of delivering results in the short term while also supporting Asurion’s mid and long-range goals and technology model.
  • If not already well versed, the candidate must learn and be able to provide subject matter expertise around core quality tools including root cause analysis, corrective and preventive action, advanced quality planning, FMEA and control plans. Support of quality activities during project planning and throughout the program life cycle.
  • The candidate will assist or even lead some efforts in monitoring quality performance, identifying performance gaps, defining, and implementing countermeasures.
  • This role will be key to help design and implement Asurion Best in Class processes that ensure quality and foster a strong quality culture.
  • Contribute to and participate in Engineering projects to implement key business initiatives within the UROC.
  • Lead projects to introduce new processes and process enhancements for the UROC. Control Engineering, Quality and project management activities for implementation, sustainment and maximized improvements.
  • Support UROC led projects to improve process performance, cost, or quality by making decisions regarding suggested changes to the product/process specifications resulting from these projects.
  • Perform on-site analysis and assessments of UROC processes, procedures, tooling, technicians, methods, and materials. Report on successful repair, 1st time fix, process induced damage, and DOA rates. Identify, document, and share with stakeholders potential improvement initiatives with respect to the preceding.
  • Support the introduction of new, Asurion deployed software as well as software releases, enhancements, and fixes within UROC operations.
  • Be the onsite liaison between Asurion GPE Test Engineering and the UROC technical staff as it relates to Asurion deployed or required software solutions.
  • Assist in leading UROC project teams to achieve quality improvement goals
  • Conduct process and compliance assessments at the UROC.
  • Report project progress and results to management regularly.

SKILLS:

Technical skills:

  • Familiarity with and demonstrable knowledge of electronics manufacturing, refurbishment and repair techniques and processes
  • Experience with Project management or demonstrated leadership of assigned tasks to successful completion
  • Can analyze data and observe physical processes to identify and recommend improvement opportunities and support operational execution against these
  • Working knowledge with various software tools used to test, program and content-clear consumer electronics desired
  • Process engineering experience with line balancing, waste elimination, cycle time reduction, fixture design, and ergonomics knowledge desired
  • Working knowledge of software testing, deployment, revision control, and release management processes desired
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience and demonstrated success working with minimal supervision in circumstances requiring good time management skills
  • Knowledge in, and experience using statistical process control and analysis beneficial
  • Lean/Six sigma knowledge and experience beneficial
  • Ability to influence at multiple levels of the organization beneficial

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Required Education And Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent training, knowledge and experience required.
  • Minimum five years’ time in an engineering role or equivalent experience.
  • Experience working on-site with 3rd party suppliers and customers will contribute heavily to success in this role.
