What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cryo Electron Microscopy Specialist position at Astrix?
- We need someone who is experienced in using running a cryo-electron microscope and can design experiments, collect the data from the experiments, and analyze/interpret the results.
- We are not looking to a histotechnician who solely has experience preparing samples, but the person needs to be able to do the sample prep as well as the cryo-EM/ET work
Roles / Responsibilities
- Perform sample preparation for both single-particle analysis (SPA) cryo-EM and cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET).
- Collect, analyze, and interpret cryo-EM and cryo-ET dataset.
- Collaborate with other scientists to design and execute experiments.
- Support the lab with operation of side-entry cold-holder
- Train and mentor junior staff and scientists in cryo-EM and cryo-ET techniques.
- Work with staff to conduct research, including planning and conducting experiments and data analysis.
- Locate and review the literature pertinent to projects to identify the most applicable protocols and methods; perform experiments in accordance with protocols.
- Collect, organize, and record experimental data for publication and future reference by others.
- Prepare analyses and reports for publication and presentation; participate in laboratory meetings.
- Organize and maintain laboratory, including inventory and ordering of supplies and equipment; organize and maintain stocks of reagents.
- Provide orientation and training to new staff.
- Provide training and mentoring to trainees and colleagues when needed.
- Prepare datasets for publication and deposit in controlled-access databases.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree; preference for MSc/Ph.D. degree in Biological Sciences or other related discipline.
- Minimum of two years of experience in a research laboratory environment.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in the cryoEM field.
- Experience with sample preparation for both SPA and Cryo-ET.
- Experience in computational analysis of cryo-EM data
- Familiarity with state-of-the-art cryo-EM software packages and high-performance computing units (HPC).
- Current working knowledge of the software and hardware developments in cryo-EM, and limitations of the technique.
- Interest in participating in research projects.

Salary : $80,000 - $110,000
