Position Overview

We are seeking a high-energy, passionate, and visionary Solution Architect to join our Enterprise Strategy & Architecture group. Reporting to the Lead Enterprise Architect, you will act as a Master Planner with a big-picture mindset, responsible for turning our strategic business vision into concrete, scalable technology implementation roadmaps.

The ideal candidate will possess a thorough understanding of asset-heavy business processes, application portfolios, and modern IT infrastructure. You will own the architectural integrity of a multi-million dollar portfolio of applications, empowering execution teams with reusable patterns while steering enterprise strategy in absolute alignment with the company's True North Strategy Goals.

  • Work Type: Hybrid. 1-2 days a week in office.
  • Job Location: Oakland, CA

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Roadmap Ownership: Partner directly with senior business and IT leadership to design end-to-end technology roadmaps across Integrated Planning, Project & Portfolio Management (PPM), Engineering & Estimating, and Work Management domains.
  • Architecture Modeling: Create detailed business and data architecture models to align commercial goals and utility-scale outcomes with clear technical execution paths.
  • Asset & Risk Rationalization: Evaluate the current state IT application environment for the asset and risk domains, proactively defining the future-state target IT architecture. Lead application rationalization, vendor assessments, and the technical scope of RFPs.
  • Delivery & Governance: Provide technical governance and enterprise architecture views to support cross-functional project solution designs. Coordinate roadmaps across enterprise groups to mitigate technical conflicts, redundancies, and interdependencies.
  • Enablement & Mentorship: Build and maintain prioritized portfolio backlogs for shared capabilities. Empower agile engineering squads by delivering reusable architecture patterns, reference architectures, and decision-making frameworks, while coaching and mentoring implementation teams across the value chain.
  • Innovation: Stay continuously updated with emerging industry segments including AI, edge computing, and grid modernization technologies to champion portfolio modernization.

Required Qualifications

Minimum Experience:

  • Education: BA/BS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a highly technical related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Enterprise Experience: Minimum of 6 years of progressive experience in Enterprise Architecture and Solution Architecture, with a proven track record of handling complex, large-scale systems.
  • Mindset: A proven self-starter who thrives in fast-moving, cross-functional, and agile corporate environments.

Desired & Preferred Skills:

  • Utility Domain Expertise: Direct experience working within or alongside the Utility industry, specifically focused on core domains like Integrated Planning, PPM, Engineering & Estimating, and Work Management.
  • Core Systems Knowledge: Hands-on architecture implementation experience with heavy enterprise platforms including SAP, Primavera P6, Engineering & Estimating tools, and Enterprise Reporting/Analytics suites.
  • Architectural Frameworks: Expert-level understanding of business capability mapping and business process reengineering (BPR). A relevant industry certification such as TOGAF is highly preferred.
  • Leadership & Soft Skills: Superior communication and interpersonal skills. Must have a strong sense of ownership and the executive presence required to collaborate seamlessly with both business executives and IT development teams.
  • Advanced Degree: Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Business Administration (MBA).
