What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sr. Mechanical Engineer - Wastewater position at AstraPack?
About the Role
We are seeking a hands-on Mechanical / Industrial Project Engineer to design and integrate the mechanical backbone of water and wastewater infrastructure systems.
This role is critical to ensuring pumping systems, treatment equipment, and hydraulic systems are designed, integrated, and executed effectively from concept through construction. You will take ownership of mechanical systems across projects, ensuring designs are technically sound, constructible, and optimized for long-term performance.
What You’ll Do
- Design mechanical systems including pumping systems, rotating equipment, and treatment process equipment
- Specify and select equipment (pumps, blowers, valves, piping systems, treatment components)
- Perform hydraulic and process modeling to validate system performance
- Coordinate with civil, electrical, and controls engineers to ensure full system integration
- Support construction through RFIs, submittal reviews, and contractor coordination
- Develop engineering documentation including calculations, reports, and specifications
- Optimize systems for constructability, efficiency, and lifecycle performance
What You’ll Own
- Mechanical system design across wastewater infrastructure projects
- Equipment selection and technical specifications
- Hydraulic performance modeling and validation
- Construction-phase engineering support
- End-to-end mechanical system accountability within projects
What Success Looks Like
- Projects delivered on schedule with minimal mechanical-related change orders
- Accurate, high-quality equipment specifications
- Hydraulic models that align with real-world performance
- Strong collaboration with contractors, clients, and internal teams
- Designs that are not just functional—but optimized and buildable
Top Priorities
- Mechanical system design for pumping and treatment systems
- Equipment specification and cross-disciplinary integration
- Troubleshooting and resolving performance issues during design and construction
Your Background
- 5 years of experience in Mechanical, Industrial, or Process Engineering within infrastructure environments
- Strong experience with pump systems, rotating equipment, and fluid systems/hydraulics
- Experience with equipment specification and vendor coordination
- Background in water/wastewater, municipal infrastructure, utilities, or industrial systems
Preferred:
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or actively working toward one
Tools & Skills
- AutoCAD / Civil3D
- Hydraulic modeling software
- Engineering calculations and system modeling
- Strong technical documentation skills
How We Work
We operate lean and expect engineers to take ownership. This is a hands-on role where you will:
- Work across disciplines
- Stay engaged through construction
- Solve real-world engineering challenges
- Contribute to improving design standards and system performance
Why This Role Matters
