What are the responsibilities and job description for the Remote Electrical, HVAC / Mechanical Estimator position at Astra Estimating?
ABOUT ASTRA ESTIMATING
Astra Estimating provides commercial and residential estimating services for electrical, plumbing, and HVAC contractors across the country. Contractors send us their plans, and we send back accurate, bid-ready numbers so they can compete for work without pulling their own people off the job or guessing at a number.
Our clients bid real work off what we hand them. That means our numbers carry weight and our deadlines are firm.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Perform detailed material and labor takeoffs from full plan sets and specifications
- Produce complete, bid-ready estimates for commercial and residential projects
- Identify scope gaps, plan discrepancies, and missing information before they become a client's problem
- Document assumptions, exclusions, and inclusions clearly so the contractor knows exactly what is covered
- Manage several active bids at once and deliver each one on or before the due date
- Communicate directly and professionally with clients on questions, clarifications, and revisions
WHAT WE REQUIRE
- Five or more years of hands-on estimating and takeoff experience in electrical, plumbing, or HVAC
- Ability to read and interpret a complete plan set and specifications independently
- Proficiency with estimating and takeoff software
- Strong Excel skills and comfort with digital document management
- Proven track record of meeting bid deadlines while working independently
- Reliable high-speed internet and a dedicated, distraction-free workspace
- Clear, professional written and verbal communication
NICE TO HAVE
- Field experience in your trade before moving into estimating
- Experience estimating for multiple contractors or across multiple markets
- Familiarity with both commercial and residential scopes
WHO THIS ROLE IS NOT FOR
This is a fully remote, deadline-driven position with real accountability. It is a strong fit for a seasoned estimator who works well without someone standing over their shoulder. It is not a training role, and it is not a fit for someone new to estimating or looking for light, flexible side work. If you need daily direction to stay on track, this will not be the right environment for you.
WHAT WE OFFER
- Fully remote work, from wherever you are
- A steady, consistent pipeline of jobs with no selling, no cold calling, and no chasing clients
- Clear expectations and clear deadlines, with no ambiguity about what good work looks like
- Room to grow as our client base and divisions expand
HOW TO APPLY
Submit your resume along with a short note covering:
1. Your primary trade (electrical, plumbing, or HVAC)
2. Years of estimating experience
3. The estimating software you use most
4. A recent project you estimated, including approximate size and scope
Applications without this information will not be reviewed.
