Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Health Officer role based in New York, NY, supporting the health and safety needs of campers and staff. The Health Officer will oversee daily health screenings, respond to routine and urgent medical concerns, and maintain accurate health records and incident reports. Responsibilities include monitoring overall community health, administering first aid and medications in accordance with camp protocols, and coordinating with local healthcare providers when higher-level care is needed. The role will also include conducting risk assessments, advising on safe practices for camp activities, and collaborating with leadership to implement health, hygiene, and safety policies. The Health Officer will educate staff and campers on health practices, participate in staff training, and ensure compliance with relevant regulations and camp standards.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in Occupational Health and Workplace Safety to support a safe environment for staff and camp operations.
- Background in Community Health with the ability to promote wellness and manage health concerns in a group setting.
- Strong Communication skills to clearly convey health information, policies, and procedures to campers, families, and staff.
- Knowledge of Construction Safety and related risk management practices as they apply to camp facilities and activity areas.
- Relevant clinical training or licensure (e.g., nurse, EMT, paramedic, or similar health qualification) preferred.
- Current certifications in basic first aid and CPR; advanced emergency response certifications are an advantage.
- Ability to make sound decisions under pressure, maintain confidentiality, and document health events accurately.
- Willingness to work on-site in a camp-focused environment, including some evenings and weekends as needed.
