What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Technician position at Astra Core-X?
Maintenance Technician
Broomfield, CO and Watkins, CO · on-site, multi-site · Reports to: Facilities Engineer
THE MISSION
Astra Core-X (ACX) is developing affordable and capable combined ramjet/rocket missile interceptors for the defense of the United States and our allies. We're rapidly bringing this capability to market by pairing the latest manufacturing processes and technology with solid financial backing and the guidance of world-class industry experts and research institutions.
Over the past year ACX has grown from a founding team into a roughly 40-person organization standing up its own missile interceptor production capability out of Broomfield, Colorado and a production/test site in Chugwater, Wyoming. We're mid-build on a production facility and targeting a working pilot line within the next year. At this size, every hire directly shapes how the company runs.
Our work exists to make American service members and allied forces safer. We're glad to have teammates who've carried that mission in uniform, and we welcome veterans and transitioning service members to apply.
THE ROLE
Right now, one Facilities Engineer is covering two sites and a facility renovation. This role exists to change that. You'll support keeping both sites running day to day, and give our Facilities Engineer an actual partner instead of an inbox full of open tickets. We'd especially love to find someone with a licensed master electrician background.
We're deliberately small and deliberately fast, and we equip every team — not just engineering — with modern software and AI-assisted tools so a lean group can run like a much bigger one.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
• Execute preventive and corrective maintenance across our Broomfield and Watkins sites.
• Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems across both sites.
• Support the facility renovation: coordinate with contractors on mechanical, electrical, and plumbing work.
• Maintain calibration and PM schedules for lab and production equipment.
• Respond to equipment-down events across both sites and troubleshoot to root cause.
• Help build out a real CMMS system of record so the inspection program runs on data, not memory.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
• High school diploma or equivalent, plus a trade certification or 3 years of equivalent hands-on industrial maintenance experience.
• Comfortable reading P&IDs, electrical schematics, and mechanical drawings.
• Willingness to work around pressurized systems and hazardous materials with proper training and PPE.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel between Broomfield and Watkins sites.
• This role requires access to a controlled-access production facility. Applicants must be U.S. citizens.
NICE TO HAVE
• Licensed master electrician or equivalent hands-on electrical background.
• Prior exposure to OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) or a covered-equipment inspection program.
• HVAC licensure.
• CMMS experience.
• Forklift certification.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
The pay range for this role is $28.00 – $42.00 per hour, based on experience and scope.
Full-time employees are eligible for company-sponsored medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan, and paid time off.
EQUAL OPPORTUNITY
Astra Core-X is an equal opportunity employer. We evaluate all applicants on their merits and qualifications without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other status protected by applicable law. Many ACX positions require access to export-controlled technical data; where this posting states a citizenship requirement, it reflects that legal restriction and does not otherwise limit our commitment to equal opportunity in hiring.
Salary : $28 - $42
