Astoria School District No. 1C is seeking applicants for the following full-time position:
JOB TITLE: Lead Custodian – 8 hrs/day - Astoria High School
REPORTS TO: Site Administrator/Facilities Director
EVALUATED BY: Site Administrator/Facilities Director
JOB SUMMARY:
Under the general supervision of a school principal, personally performs and supervises routine custodial, repair and cleaning work at an elementary school and does related work as required.
QUALIFICATIONS OF POSITION:
- High School Diploma or equivalent as required by OAR 581-37-030, Oregon Department of Education
- Must be 18 years of age
- Must be able to pass a background check
Knowledge of:
- Modern cleaning methods and the use, care and safety of cleaning materials and equipment
- Requirements for maintaining school buildings and facilities in a safe, clean and orderly condition
- Methods, materials, equipment and tools used in routine buildings and facilities maintenance work
- Operation of heating plant and equipment
Ability to:
- Layout work and to estimate time, tools and materials needed.
- Demonstrate knowledge of and expertise in the basic techniques of electrical layout and repair, basic plumbing, mechanics, maintenance, carpentry and facility maintenance
- Maintain simple records
- Supervise the work of others
- Establish and maintain harmonious relationships with students, fellow employees and the general public
- Obtain and maintain Oregon Drivers License

- Moderate to extensive degree of physical stamina and frequent lifting up to 50 lbs. and occasional lifting up to 100 lbs
- Frequent and prolonged standing, walking and bending
- Exposure to outdoor weather conditions of heat, cold and where ventilation may be inadequate
- May require exposure to chemicals, dirt, paint, chalk, noise, odors and the possibility of electrical shock
- Ability to operate tractors, mowers, dump truck, district vehicles, forklift, power tools and etc.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Directly supervise and participate in the training of Assistant Custodians and all phases of cleaning of an elementary school
- Sees that the building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways and play areas, are neat, clean and free of offensive writing at all times
- Checks daily to ensure that all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during the hours of building occupancy
- Raise the flag(s) in the AM and lower the flag(s) in the PM
- Maintains, on a regular schedule, all motors and other mechanical equipment requiring scheduled servicing
- Conducts an ongoing program of general maintenance, upkeep and repair
- Keeps an inventory of supplies, equipment and fuel on hand and requisitions same
- Complies with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of all trash, rubbish, waste and chemicals
- Confers with the principal regarding care and cleaning programs and schedules
- Daily inspects to work of all custodial staff
- Confers with principal and teaching staff regarding special custodial needs
- Inspects the building for fire, electrical and other safety hazards
- Receives and oversees the completion of job requests for services and repairs
- Supervises and personally performs the cleaning of walls, furniture, woodwork and other equipment and sees that floors are stripped and waxed periodically
- Cleans lunch rooms and cafeteria
- Checks on restrooms during the day and replenishes supplies
- Orders, receives, stores, distributes and accounts for necessary supplies and equipment
- Directs visitors and safeguards all school property
- Sees that rooms are set up for special events and needs
- Supervises children in the lunchroom
- Helps direct safe food disposal and orderly exit to playground form lunch room
- Lays out and assigns duties of the custodial staff
- Participates in the complete cleaning and routine maintenance during summer
- Recommends employment, disciplinary action, commendations and dismissal of staff under immediate supervision
- Responds to emergency situations, such as water leaks, fires and snow removal This duty may require adjustment to irregular or extended hours necessary to cope with the problem
- Acts as a mandated abuse reporter
- Knowledge of Astoria School District Policies and building procedures
- Regular and acceptable attendance is required
- Perform other related duties as assigned

SALARY RANGE:
2023-2024 - $22.97/Hourly
2024-2025 - $23.89/Hourly
