What are the responsibilities and job description for the Speech Language Pathologist position at Astor Services and Careers?
The Astor Learning Center (ALC) is a therapeutic school for children facing educational, emotional, and behavioral challenges. The ALC provides a nurturing learning environment where children who have often experienced failure in school can finally succeed. Started in 2010, Astor’s Day Student Program enables children from the local community to stay at home and attend a more structured educational environment that better meets their needs.
The ALC is looking for a Speech Language Pathologist! The Speech Language Pathologist will be responsible for evaluating children when data based or clinical material gained during diagnostic study suggests problems complicated by or related to speech or language difficulties. They will assist in developing a milieu environment which considers the child’s language and speech needs.
Job Responsibilities:
- Upon enrollment or intake, evaluates each child’s language and speech ability in preparation for diagnostic planning.
- Responsible for reviewing material of incoming children and alerting appropriate staff to possible language disabilities.
- May undertake individual/group speech therapy with children in need of such treatment.
- Provides periodic in-service training to staff on speech and language disorders in children.
- Develops speech curriculum materials and coordinates their use in delivery of speech/language services.
- Creates behavior management systems and coordinates their use where appropriate.
- Maintains appropriate records to assess current progress of the specific IEP language objectives and disseminates information regarding child’s progress to other members of the treatment team/staff.
